Why Him?

Everything changes

     I act as if I don't notice but everyone else does. Riley grabs my hand. "It's okay Maya." she says it quietly so that I only hear. I turn around and look at Josh. "Hey." he looks around at our silent group. He then looks back at me and smiles before walking out. I look back at Riley. "Something's not right." I get up and walk out but Lucas follows. "Maya." I turn around. "What?" he steps closer. "Are you sure you want to go after him?" I wrinkle my brow. "Of course I'm sure." I continue walking and hope that I'll catch up with Josh. I sadly don't find him. So I make my way back to Topanga's. When I get there I overhear Lucas, Farkle, Smackle, and Zay talking. "I just don't understand how she's gonna do this." Lucas says. Smackle chimes in. "Its highly improbable that she will. There are three possible scenarios. One she'll get through the pregnancy and then give the child away. Two she'll have the baby and the responsibility will fall on her mother because she is unable to be a mother. Or three, she'll have the child and Josh will step up and take the child rising it as a single father in college." Riley returns from the bathroom. "What are y'all talking about?" Smackle turns to her. "The impossibility of Maya being able to care for a child." Farkle looks over at her. "Smackle!" I walk in. "I'm glad to know that I can count on my friends to not talk about me behind my back." I grab my books and Riley calls after me. I turn around to face her. "You said that nothing would change. That they would treat me the same. They can't Riley. They look at me differently. Just like I knew they would." I go back home and sit in my room. I decide to call Josh but he doesn't answer. I can't help but wonder why. Something seemed off with him tonight. I guess I'll try and get ahold of him tomorrow.

     I wake up early the next day but my mom is already gone. I have to go to school sadly, so I get dressed, eat, and head out the door. I debate whether or not I want to stop by the Matthews to pick up Riley. She hasn't done anything to me but I don't really want to be around people. I guess I will. I knock on the door but I get no answer. After a few moments I decide to just leave. I arrive at school with a few moments to spare but none of my friends are in sight. The bell rings and I go to class. When I come in everyone besides Mr. Matthews is already there. I take my usual seat and keep my gaze straight ahead. Mr. Matthews comes in and starts his lesson but I hardly pay attention. All I can think about is leaving. I really need to talk to Josh. We need to figure out a plan and I wanna know what was up with yesterday. I'm kinda worried. Through out class Lucas and Farkle try and get my attention but I ignore them. The bell finally rings and I am out of there faster then anyone else. I snatch my next book out of my locker and start heading to class when Riley walks over to me. "Maya! You've barely spoken a word to me this morning. Whats up?" I continue walking. "You know very well whats up. I'm not mad at you Riley. I just got a lot of stuff going on and I need time to think. Okay?" she nods. "Sure. I get it. I'll see you at lunch then?" I nod. "Yeah. See you then."
