We eventually had to stop kissing because it was getting much to intense. We stop at the perfect time though because the nurse walks in. "How are you feeling Ms. Hart?" I smile. "I'm feeling good. Hows my baby?" she smiles. "He's doing well. I'm actually here because of him. See when a baby is in an incubator we still want him/her to have contact with the mother and our best proven method that usually helps stable a premature baby actually includes the mother. Its called kangaroo care. Would you be interested?" I nod. "Absolutely." she then pulls out a wheel chair and brings in over to me. "Okay you'll want to change into some pants and a shirt. Then I'll bring you in there and teach how it all works. And if you want he can come along. He could be helpful, keep you calm." I nod. "Yes please." I then go into the bathroom and change. I come back out and Josh helps me into the wheel chair and we follow the nurse to the incubator.
We get there and I sit in a rocking chair close to the incubator. She sets up a wall divider for privacy then proceeds to explain. "Okay so basically we're going to lay him on your bare chest and have you hold him for about thirty minutes and if he's doing well then we'll make it an hour. I'll give you a blanket to cover up with though so don't worry. This process helps stabilize the baby's breathing, regulate body temperature, and helps the blood flow." I nod along. "Okay. Sounds simple enough." she gets everything set up and then turns back to me. "Okay now its going to take a minute to position him since he does have some chords and such on him." I nod. "Okay." she walks over to my baby and starts to get him out. "Okay if you don't mind I'll need you to remove your shirt now." without giving another thought I do as told knowing that its the only way that I can get to hold my baby. She then brings him him over to me and rests him on my chest. She starts to move the chords around trying to make him as comfortable as possible. After a minute or so she lays the blanket on top of him and me. She stands up from her crouched position. "Okay everything is set up and I have alerts on the monitor to tell me if his temperature goes to low or anything. So I'll give y'all some privacy." she then exits and Josh comes and sits next to me. I take my eyes off my baby for a second to look over at Josh. "I almost forgot you were here." I say with a small laugh. He smiles. "That's alright." I then recall the last five minutes when I was shirtless in his view. I roll my eyes. "Yeah I'm sure it is." he then gets what my eye roll was for. "No not because of that. Its because I don't think I've ever seen you so happy. And I like seeing you happy." my smile wants to grow but it can't get any bigger then it already is. I am the happiest I've been. With my baby in my arms and Josh by my side. I never want to leave this moment.
