Chapter 4: Good Bye
PJ POV:
Well I didn't see this coming... neither did mom. Today was the day when Teddy and Gabe were gonna get on a bus and go 2 hours away from home to some stupid camp. But, look on the bright side... I have a whole week without Teddy and Gabe. But that feeling of freedom and happiness would only make sense if I still lived in the house. I have my own apartment now, and I'm living with Emmett.
Gabe's been packing his stuff for his big trip. I think he took his whole room with him. And Teddy...oh shoot! I just remembered. I still have to think of something for when Spencer comes. I guess I'll just say that Teddy went on a camping trip with her school and won't be back for the rest if the week. Yeah, that sounds quite mature and truthful. Just gotta hope he doesn't ask too many questions.
"Hey PJ, pass me my sleeping bag. It's right behind you." Gabe said walking or should I say running down the stairs. I took the sleeping back and pushed it in front of his face. "Here you go." I said. "Thanks..." he looked at me cross-eyed and went up to the front door. Teddy came upstairs with her suitcase and headed for the front door. After then Mom and Dad came outta the kitchen with their phones and a camera. "C'mon kids, photo before you two head off. PJ, you're driving right?" asked Dad. "Yeah, sure." I wasn't informed of this before.
They snapped a few pictures, hugged Teddy and Gabe twice and before you knew it we were out of the house and into my car. "Hey, I just have to drive you guys to school right?" I asked. "Yes, you idiot." replied Gabe. Teddy was sorta quiet. She only spoke when I asked where the school was. I haven't been going there for like 2 years so I forgot the route. I couldn't take the silence anymore so I asked, "Sis, what's wrong???" "I'm still kinda worried about this whole Spencer problem." she whispered. I guess she didn't want Gabe to hear but he heard anyway. "I thought you hated him now...that's what you told me." he said. "Shut up." she replied to him hastily. "Chill! I got everything under control. Don't worry about him. Is Beau coming on the trip too?" I said, changing the topic. "No. He doesn't go to this school." she flatly replied. We then pulled up in the school's parking lot.
My little brother and sister came outta the car and opened the trunk to get their things out. Gabe met up with his friend, Jake, and Teddy found Ivy and talked to some other familiar faces. I saw some of my old teachers, most of them I didn't like. Finally, I see a massive bus pull into the parking lot. I guess that was their bus. That thing covered about 10 spaces.
I guess they were gonna leave in a few minutes. Last minute pictures were taken, parents were hugging their kids and crying at the same time. Some of them might've taken up a lot of guts to send their kids to a camp for almost a week. But if you're Gabe's parents, all you need is a fair bet that your kid surprisingly finds a way to win. Teddy and Gabe were gonna go on the bus but they'll never forget to say good bye to their older brother. Gabe fist-punched me, said bye and hurried off to the bus. Teddy came up and hugged me and whispered, "Thank you, you're an awesome brother." she smiled and went on the bus. Before you knew it the big bus pulled outta the parking lot and drove off to their final destination, Camp Lifetime. Wow, that name really is cheesy. 😝
One hour later.......
Gabe POV:
Man, I'm so hungry. I just wish Jake didn't talk so much. Or I wish he didn't keep wanting to play video games. We played for a short while and I felt like I was gonna throw up. Now I'm getting bus sick. I can't look out the window anymore, all I'm seeing are fast-food places; Pizza Hut, McDonald's, Burger King. Plus Jake's eaten about 5 sandwiches by now and he's talking while doing that. I bet he spit up at least a whole sandwich just by doing that. I tell him to stop, he stops for about 30 seconds then starts yapping and eating nonstop like a duck. Why couldn't I have chosen another partner? I've been looking all around the bus for Teddy. I finally see her, all the way at the back talking to Ivy and constantly checking her phone. I get up and hesitate to move another inch. I just don't wanna walk down the entire bus just to ask my sister if she had anything to eat or when the bus was gonna stop. I'm not gonna rely on her on this trip...only if I really need to.
Then, finally the teacher stands up and announces that we'd be stopping for about 20mins at a park to eat. Wait, how were we supposed to eat if we didn't have any lunch? I turned to Jake, and he said we were supposed to pack a lunch to eat at a pit-stop. Ugh! How could I be so dumb? I told the teacher I didn't have any lunch with me. He said he didn't know what to do. Then another teacher barges into our conversation. "Gabe, are you a Duncan?" asked the other teacher. "Uh, yeah?" I sounded unsure of myself. She then gets a list of 12th grade students' names and spots out my sister, Teddy Duncan. OK, so that lady is the 12th Grade teacher AKA, Teddy's teacher. "Is she your sister?" "Yeah." I replied. She turned around and called out to Teddy. "TEDDY, YOUR BROTHER DOESN'T HAVE A LUNCH, WOULD YOU SPARE SOME OF YOURS FOR HIM?"
All the other kids stopped what they were doing and looked up at the teacher. They all looked at Teddy, then to me. Some of them started giggling and some others just ignored whatever was happening. Teddy looked up, puzzled and half embarrassed and went back to what they were doing before the loud announcement. Her teacher gestured for her to come up to the front of the bus. Teddy came, turned to me and asked, "You really didn't bring your lunch, didn't you take the lunch bag mom packed for you?" "Well, no. I didn't even know she packed a lunch bag full of stuff." I said, guiltily. She rolled her eyes and told me to follow her down the bus so she could hand me half of her lunch. She had a burger...MOM'S burger. She might as well be happy that she was giving half of it to me. Mom always overcooks her food to make it as hard as a rock.
I took the half and then saw Teddy pulling out a juice box. I grabbed it outta her hand as soon as it was visible to me. She stared at me like I was going nuts. "Woah, you sure are hungry bro." she said with a smirk on her face. Ivy was there too watching everything we were doing. Staring back and forth from Teddy to me. I could also see from the corner of my eye that she was also smiling after every gesture we did. Teddy seemed not to notice Ivy until her teacher said "Lets go." and Ivy got up. We all eventually left the bus and went out to the park.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Teddy POV:
Yep, Gabe's totally avoiding me. At the park he wouldn't even look at me. We never spoke a word and we never came close to each other either. Since he was ignoring me, completely erasing me from his life, I decided to leave him alone. I mean this didn't get me upset or angry like the other times he ignored me. He might as well just be showing the slightest amount of anger towards me... I really don't care what he thinks right now. Gabe's gotta start manning up now that he's gonna turn 15 in a few months. I guess he's wishing I wasn't his sister anymore because of Ms. Evans' shout out in the bus. We just came back from the park where I had only half a burger and some water I borrowed from Ivy. She came well prepared for this trip. Yet again, her parents are quite protective of her since she's their only child. I looked at my watch...11:57pm. We have one more hour until we reach Camp Lifetime. I looked at my phone and then remembered PJ, then Spencer and Beau. I really hope my big brother has everything under control with my ex, Spence... I mean Spencer. I don't even have a cute nickname for my current boyfriend...Shoot! I never told him about this trip!!! I panicked for about a few seconds then remembered that Dad might tell him since he works with Beau. Hope he doesn't get mad at me... I never even said good-bye to him before we left.
