Chapter 36: Bob's Begone

Bob POV:

"Alright, alright. I understand." I paused, "Fine, I'll do it."

I hung up the phone, huffed and plopped in my big, black chair at the main desk of my Bob's Bugs Begone location.

How am I doing this? I can't-

My thought proces was stopped by the sound of Amy walking in through the front door. I knew it was time to break my news to her. If I didn't and she found out later, well, let's just say I'll be in a whole truck load of trouble.

She saw my expression and asked me the question I knew she was going to ask, "What's wrong, Bob?"

"Amy...sit down. I'm not sure how you'll take this."

She raised an eyebrow and sat down on one of the smaller chairs in front of my desk.

"I don't know how to break this to you-"

"Just get with it, I can handle anything," Amy said sternly.

I chuckled in my head then started, "Well, it turns out Bob's Bugs Begone, will...I guess 'be gone' from Denver."

She stared at me with those big, blue eyes and then began to chuckle.

I wasn't sure what to do so I just stared at her.

"Wait...you're not kidding, Bob? You actually mean-"

"Yes, I guess I won't be returning back to Denver in a while."

She paused, and I knew she was going to explode the next second.

But quite frankly, she didn't.

"Why?" she quietly blurted out.

"I guess Florida is where my job is; it's the only way our family could get our bread and butter," I explained.

"Will the kids and I have to...move here too?" Amy queried.

"No. Definitely not. Your home is in Denver."

"Yours too," Amy quietly murmured.

"I don't care. As long as my family has a home, I'm happy," I assured even though I knew she'll try every possible way to make me change my mind.

But strangely, she never said a word as she gazed off.

"Amy?" I asked.

"Let's see what the kids have to say about this," was all she said, then exited the building. I glanced out the window and saw her pull out her phone, and that moment was the start of my entire family hating me.

2 HOURS LATER

"Dad?!" all four of my kids exclaimed.

I dug my head in my hands for about 30 seconds and then looked up while sighing.

"I'm sorry kids...I really am. It's just-" I was cut off by Amy.

"Bob I understand what you're going through," she sighed as if it took all her energy to say those few words.

"Mom how could you - I have to go to Yale! I'm already one year late!" Teddy exclaimed. I don't want to be the reason my eldest daughter doesn't get her well-deserved education.

"That's why we're staying in Denver," she huffed, "we'll leave by the end of August."

"But Dad's job..." Gabe reminded.

I looked at Amy. "I'm staying here aren't I?"

She nodded sadly and I looked at the kids. They all stared at their mother in bewilderment.

"Mom, you can't just..." Teddy lost her words and looked at me.

"It's the only way our family can sustain ourselves, Teddy," I looked at my other kids...even Toby and Charlie looked confused about this situation. I sighed. "I'm sorry kids, I-I really am." Then I stepped out of the room to get some air.

Gabe POV:

I honestly don't know what's happening.

Dad just told us he's not coming back home with us. Teddy, PJ and pretty much everyone else has this strange look on their face...I don't know what's going through their heads right now.

But I'm pretty sure I have a similar look etched on my own face as well.

"Kids, dad has to do what he has to," Mom said, a hint of sadness in her voice.

The room fell more silent than ever.

Then finally, my brother's voice startled me. "I get it. We have to continue with our lives."

And the conversation ended with that.
