Chapter 5: Bad Expectations

Gabe POV:

Well, it's been one whole hour on this bus after we all stopped off at that park. One hour of sleeping and having the nerve to punch Jake whenever he annoyed me which was like all the time. I'm gonna get another partner for the trip back home. Now forget all that for now, we are now at Camp Lifetime until Friday! I collect my stuff from the bus and got ready to head off to our cabins. I looked around the bus area for Teddy. I catch a glimpse of her for a split second until she made eye contact with me. As soon as our eyes met, I looked away. I felt bad for her... I have the strange feeling she thinks I'm mad at her. I was, well only a bit. Now I'm rethinking about being angry at her. I mean, it wasn't her fault her teacher yelled out some stuff about her being my sister and me, stupidly forgetting my lunch. She's my sister and I should be thankful that she at least came on this trip, otherwise I wouldn't have had a lunch...

It took me some to realize that I was staring out to space. Well I still would've been doing that if it wasn't for Jake who had pinched me real hard. That cheap kid started giggling after he saw my first reaction to that. I quickly got annoyed with him so I scowled and walked away from him.

I was staring directly at the ground while attempting to fully walk away from Jake until I bumped into some tall dude who I believe was our Camp counsellor. He had a name tag saying Robbie, Director, Camp Lifetime "Uh, sorry dude." I said. The guy looked furious. I don't get it, it was a minor accident. "Kid, watch where you're going. One rule here at Camp Lifetime...ALWAYS watch where you are going! He pronounced that last part quite carefully. I doubt he was a counsellor, they're usually more friendly. I guess "director" meant big, mean guy her at this camp. It took me sometime to realize he was still waiting for a response to his words. "I promise you, I'll never... be clumsy here at camp." He stared at me with his small, mean eyes. Gosh, he could seriously win a staring contest. Afterwards, he came really close to me. I leaned back a bit. I didn't know what he was gonna do to me."Kid, do you know how long I'd been working at this camp?" he asked, roughly. I gulped. Before I could respond to that, he said, EXTREMELY loudly, "27 YEARS!!!! I'm one of the pioneers of this place. I started this camp off. So, do you know how many times I've heard that damn promise?" I didn't have the gut to say much but I got the nerve to say something stupid. "I don't know, 30?" Now his face turned lava red. I backed out slowly, picking up pace as he followed. I shouldn't have said anything.

As I backed out, terrified, I noticed that teachers and students and people who I think are our counsellors were staring wide-eyed at what was happening. I shot a look at my teacher supposedly saying "Why aren't you doing anything?" My teacher did nothing. While I was busy wondering how my teacher got his job, the Director, Robbie, was in front of me again. I immediately looked around the place for Teddy. She saw me too (obviously EVERYONE is staring at this) and made an awkward gesture. As soon as she did that, the director dude backed away from me. I think now he notices the many people watching this argument. He looked around at the crowd and then back at me and said meaninglessly, "Sorry kid, I have anger issues. Now go scurry along to you classmates." I moved an inch but then he stopped me, and then said, "I'm keeping an eye on you, kid. Geez, I expect too much from kids like you. I'm lowering my standards.." and pushed me forward. I kept walking, or should I say , brisk walking forward and went to Teddy.

"Gabe, what did you do this time?" Teddy asked. "I didn't do anything! All that happened was that I bumped into him. That guy seriously has temper issues." I defended. "You better be good and not do anything stupid here. I bet that guy would have his eyes on you like a hawk. But, I do agree with you, it wasn't your fault. He needs to go to anger management school." I'm glad teddy was at least on my side. I have to take her advice and be a goody-goody here at this place. It was a matter of time until the counsellor for the 9th grade boys directed us to our cabin.

PJ POV:

I'm at my old house a lot to help out with Charlie and Toby since Teddy and Gabe are gone. I hardly get time at my own apartment with Emmett. But by being here my mind is focused on Spencer's visit. I can't say anything too stupid or else he'll think something's suspicious. I have to be the same PJ as before, but not the extremely idiotic and dumb one. And I can't let down Teddy right now... this means a lot to her.

knock ,knock ,knock ....

That must be Spencer. The knocking continued. It was loud and fast. Doesn't he know we have a doorbell? He seemed angry. Uh oh. I walked upto the door and opened it, but the funny thing was that the person at the door, wasn't Spencer.

Instead, standing there with her curly brown hair was Lauren, Gabe's girlfriend.

"Hey, Lauren!" I said, trying to be enthusiastic. "Hi, PJ." she said. "So, what brings you here?" I said, smiling like a ninny. "I saw Gabe and Teddy leaving the house today with suitcases and sleeping bags... what's going on?" she asked. "Um, their classes went to camp for 5 days." I paused for a moment. "Wait, he didn't tell you?" I ended. "No! How, how could he forget to tell me?" her voice building up anger. "Chill, Lauren...the decision about him going on this trip was sudden...it was made only the day before the trip took place. He had a lot to prepare and do in such little time." I explained. She calmed down a bit. But then she said, "How could he still forget to tell me. It's not like I live too far. I'M RIGHT NEXT DOOR!!!!" She exclaimed, with her temper at its highest peak. "It was early in the morning and..." I started until she cut me off. "Enough with this. I'm not stupid PJ...apparently Gabe thinks I am... you're just covering up for your brother, that's nice but I'm not in for all these silly little games. I'm done with Gabe." she said. I was astonished. I hate seeing this happen. "You two had such a good relationship. Don't let this small mistake ruin it all." "He should've at least, told me in person without having you do this for him. He found out his mistake, but HE has to patch it up." She said, trying to finish off her point. I wanted to say that Gabe never even told me to do this, or that he never thought of forgetting to tell Lauren about his trip...that would set this girl on fire and I'd be the one who started it. "Good bye." she said as I was thinking. Oh and she shut the door, loudly, almost breaking it. Good thing mom and dad didn't hear anything...or else they'd start asking questions...lots of em.

Gabe POV:

After that interesting conversation with the Director of Camp Lifetime who hates kids, I was a bit quiet around Counsellors too. Well, aside from that, this place is much different than what I expected. There are many bugs... and what I mean by bugs... mosquitoes. I already got bit on my legs and hands. I haven't noticed them until I returned to my cabin. One on my leg grew pretty big and started itching like crazy. I shouldn't worry about that now, it's 5 mins to dinner time and I haven't eaten anything good all day.
