Chapter 16: Overnight

Gabe POV:

We're finally at the island. It's more like a forest near a gigantic lake, but I wanna call it an island. There were tall trees, bushes, logs...you know the typical 'forest'.

We had to set up our own tents with our groups. Oh, Victor is in my group again. How wonderful. At least he didn't do anything to me...yet.

I started with the tent poles and was lost. I really should've listened when they were teaching us how to set this thing up.

The teachers/directors said we'd set up a campfire, have s'mores and tell ghost stories. PJ would love to eat s'mores. PJ... That same thought entered my head when I remembered his name. I need to get back home to make things alright between us two.

"Hey, Victor. How do you do this thing?" I asked. "Well, here's how it goes..." he started a mini 'tent-building seminar. After a while of watching him try to put it together, I decided to help. He does have the upper body strength of a flea.

Teddy POV:

I was busy setting up my tent when I heard a few girls huddling up and talking about some guy. I couldn't help but eavesdrop on their conversation.

"I got a text from him this morning! I think we might be an item!!!" I heard one girl say then the others squealed.

Suddenly, I recognized two of those girls. One had flowing brown hair with bangs who has something bad to say about everyone. At the moment, she was gushing over this guy. The other had black hair, was super tall and over perky about things.

Yep. Those two girls were Vonnie and Kelsey (who was supposed to help me with the tent!) and the guy they were talking about was....

My ex-boyfriend.

Yes.....

SPENCER

As soon as I heard his name I dropped everything and ran over to them.

"Hey everyone!" I said, waving my hand a bit. They all flashed a smile. "I just finished up with my tent." I said a little too quickly and gazed over at the unfinished tent. Only two 9th grade girls were working on it.

I turned back, embarrassed and said, "I, finished my part of the tent. Just like Kelsey did hers!" I said, sarcastically. No one moved an inch. Their expression stayed the same...blank.

"So, what's up?" I say, stupidly. "Well, since you asked. Vonnie is with this really cute guy! He used to go to our school....oh and I think you two dated before!!!" Kelsey said. Vonnie nudged her with a cold expression on her face. I got the feeling she doesn't like me anymore. Maybe cuz of this whole Spencer business.

I nodded and added, "Oh. Spencer." "Ya! They met up in a cafe in Boston. She said, sparks were flying and love was in the air! Oh, so romantic!" she blurted, smiling at Vonnie. Vonnie grunted and looked at Kelsey like she was gonna kill her.

I couldn't take it anymore. Vonnie and Spencer... are actually a 'thing'. A feeling of loneliness and betrayal rushed into me. My smile faded.

"I-I gotta bet back to, the tent." I said and rushed back to what I was doing. Sparks were flying... Did they actually kiss? No. They couldn't have.

I glanced over to them again. Vonnie seemed really into him. I mean, really. Just like the first time I saw Spencer. Just like the first time we kissed. We had it all.

I tried to stay focused, but I couldn't. All I could think about was...what I just discovered.

Beau's leaving me. Spencer already did. But, he's coming back. At the back of my head I thought when we'd meet up tomorrow [Friday], we would, maybe, get back together. I might've jinxed it. I really missed him. I missed everything about him.

Sure, Beau is a nice guy, but I made a mistake by dating him. I let go of Spencer. Now look how that turned out.

I looked away and heard them squeal once more.

I sighed unhappily. This is gonna be a long night.
