Chapter 32: Ivy
Teddy POV:
"T, where are you?" Ivy asked, clearly freaking out.
I had just video called her and her face was as red as a tomato.
"I'm sorry, Ivy. This was so unexpected. Please don't get mad, I think my brother's girlfriend just broke up with him because he didn't inform her earlier about this surprise vacation."
"I wasn't mad, just worried. I'm glad nothing happened to you," she said.
All I could manage was a forced smile.
"What's wrong?" she blurted out.
"How do you know?" I asked.
"That's the stupidest question I ever heard you ask. And, besides, I've been your best friend since...ever. I know when you're having a bad day." Ivy said.
"I'm not just having a bad day. My whole vacation is screwed...have you seen Vonnie lately?" I questioned.
"Um no. Not since school ended," Ivy said. "Let me guess, you're still pondering on that Spencer and Vonnie thing aren't you?"
"I'm n-" I can't lie to her right now. "Yes, you're right."
"I'll see if I could speak to her, I think I have her number. I'll try to sort things out for you." Ivy offered.
"Thanks. But, if you don't have time then it's alright if you're unable to do it." I said.
"What do you mean, I definitely have time to help out my best friend!" Ivy exclaimed.
"You're going to college near the end of August..." I reminded.
"Oh, right."
We were silent for a moment, staring at each other through our laptop screens.
"Speaking of college, aren't you going to apply for Yale?" Ivy mentioned.
Unhappiness blanketed me once again.
"I'm not going."
"What!?" Ivy exclaimed, causing her nostrils to flare and her eyes to bulge right out of her face.
"With this surprise vacation to Florida, I can't go anymore. We're gonna be here for the rest of summer break." I explained.
"Teddy, you can't give up on Yale because of a stupid vacation!" Ivy scolded.
"I'm not giving up on Yale, just for this year I am." I further explained.
"What if there aren't any spots available?" Ivy asked.
"Let's just hope there are." I said.
Then my phone started ringing.
"Who is it?" Ivy wondered.
I looked at my phone and his smiling picture was right in front of my face. His number right under it.
I panicked and quickly hit the DECLINE button. I threw the phone at the other end of my bed, but it tumbled off.
"Teddy?" Ivy called from the video chat.
I ignored her and focused on my phone. I scrambled to the edge of my bed where it fell off. I peeked down and there it was, broken into pieces.
This can be fixed, I thought.
I bent down and picked up the pieces. I tried putting them back together but it was no use right now. I'm no smart phone technician.
I turned back to Ivy and she saw the broken phone.
"What the heck!?" she exclaimed.
"My dad can fix it," I hoped.
"Who called?" Ivy asked for the second time.
I sighed, "Spencer."
There was pin drop silence between the two of us.
"Why did you throw your phone?" Ivy asked.
"Enough with the questions," I shot back.
She raised an eyebrow.
"I panicked, ok!" I snapped.
"I should give you some alone time..." Ivy said.
"Sorry, I'll video call you back later." I said.
"Fine, see you. Hang in there, T." Ivy ended.
I gave her a smile and waved goodbye. Then we ended the video call.
I better get Dad, I thought staring down at my broken phone.
