Chapter 14: The Day's Over

Teddy POV:

It's about.... 7:30 in the evening and we're all heading off for dinner. I noticed Gabe looked glum so I went over to him. "C'mon buddy, perk up! Wait, what's wrong in the first place?" I wondered. "It-it's nothing you should worry about." he stuttered. I eyeballed him carefully as we walked into the cafeteria. I bet he noticed then he said louder, "I'm fine OK! Just leave me alone..." he said much more quietly. He coughed after walking a few steps away from me. I brisk walked closer to him and he stopped when I asked, "You sure?" "Yes!" he said angrily then headed towards his table and just sat there, just staring at the wooden tabletop. He coughed a couple more times and then the food came to both our tables.

I dug in since I was pretty hungry after today. I turned back and saw Gabe was barely eating his food. He was just picking at the meatballs on his plate. Ok, something was definitely wrong. I got up and walked over to him. "Dude, you gotta eat. We won't have anything good until tomorrow morning!" I said. He coughed a bit more then looked up. He didn't look good. Neither was I, but I didn't want that to come through. I'm trying to fight it.

Gabe POV:

I wasn't feeling so good. I have a headache and I don't really have an appetite now. I didn't feel like being in public now. All I wanted to do was live in my cabin forever. I sorta don't have that urge to go back home again. Only one thing was running through my mind now....

Lauren.

Why? Why'd she get so angry? She was never like that. I had so many questions for her. I don't get why so many bad things are happening to me now.. Why won't the world just leave me alone? Can't it stop putting obstacles in my path? I was looking down at my food, not wanting to eat it when Teddy grabbed my arm and I eventually stood up. I haven't been paying attention to her, and I got side tracked with my thoughts. She pulled me to a corner in the cafeteria; only then my eyes met hers. "Seriously, what's wrong?" she asked, staring at me suspiciously. I coughed.

"Are you sick?" she felt my forehead, and said, "Boy, I think you got a slight fever. Just pray you don't get too sick." she sighed. "Maybe you caught it when you were outside." she said after a while. I was silent, as usual when she was doing a little check up on me. Teddy made lip synced something to Ivy, who apparently was watching every single move of ours. Teddy then grabbed hold of my hand and pulled me out the door.

The next thing I knew was, we were in my cabin... Again. Teddy gave me a Tylenol and she started bugging me again then sat on the bed opposite from mine. "Something's on your mind?" she asked. "Why do you care?" I snapped back. She held her hands up like she was gonna surrender. "Sorry..." I mumbled, then looked down on my temporary bed. "I'm just....thinking about something....PJ told me..." I said quietly, pausing inbetween my words. Teddy sighed then smiled slightly and said, "I'm not gonna ask you anything else...I don't want to bother you anymore." She got up, and asked afterwards, "You want anything to eat? I could get you something from the cafeteria." "Nah, I'll take something from Jake's bag." I said. She smiled widely then waved goodbye, opened my door, and walked outta it. I'm guessing she's going back to the cafeteria.

I just woke up to the sound of the guys coming into the room. I guess I fell asleep. "Where'd you go?" I asked Jake. I saw he had floaties on and a towel around his neck. "Duuuude! We had the best time ever at the lake! You missed out all the fuuun!" he exclaimed. Another boy overheard our conversation and said, "Quit being a crybaby, Duncan. You're just missing out the best parts of the trip." he came up to me and slightly punched me in the arm and smirked. Oh ya, that guy was Bryce. You know, the ex-toughest guy in school. He might've moved on from that job, but he's still got some 'bully' left in him. "Leave me alone, Bryce. I really don't care." I said, looking at him angrily.

He silenly walked away and said nothing for the rest of the evening. Before I knew it, the day was over and I was back in my bed, getting ready to sleep. Today's been quite a lot for me and I'm more than ready to just forget and let go of it. Tomorrow's the overnight camping trip to some island. The bad thing is that we have to take a canoe to get over there. I just gotta hope I'm not in the same canoe with Victor again.

Amy POV:

Another day is over without Teddy and Gabe, just 2 more to go. I at least have PJ, Charlie and Toby here with me. I was just getting ready for bed when Charlie came up to me. She looked sad and worried. "Mommy, where's Teddy? And Gabe? I don't know where they went..." she said. I smiled a bit. "Didn't PJ tell you? They went somewhere for a couple of days." I said. "Are they in trouble?" she asked. I laughed a bit, "No, honey. It's just a school trip. They're alright and I promise you they'll be back by Friday evening." My youngest daughter nodded, gave me a small hug then Bob came and took her to bed. I thought again about what I just said to Charlie. They're alright... Yes, I'm sure they are. Don't you worry, Amy. I thought to myself and remembered PJ still hadn't come up to go to bed. I went downstairs and found PJ asleep on the couch. I'd really put him to work today, with the kids and house stuff... I found a blanket for him and kissed him on the cheek.

"Goodnight, PJ." I said.
