Chapter 27: The One I Forgot

Gabe POV:

It's been about 2 days since Teddy and I returned from camp.

It just came down to the last week of school.

One more week then I could get up as late as I want to.

"Teddy, can you take Gabe to school? I'm running late!" I heard Dad announce to my older sister from upstairs.

Teddy ran up from the basement and got her keys.

"C'mon. Let's go." she said to me and opened the front door.

"Amy!" Dad yelled from upstairs.

I quickly went through the door and something caught my eye.

I feel like I forgot something...

I'm looking at the Dabney's place.

Mrs. Dabney was outside, watering her poor, shrivelled up flowers and plants.

"Gabe hurry up!" Teddy yelled, standing next to her car.

I scurried off to Ed, Teddy's car and she drove off. My mind was still set to remembering something.

I have a strange feeling like it was important. I just don't know what 'it' is.

---------------------------------

I came back home and plopped on the couch, pretty tired.

PJ then came up to me and asked, "Did you talk to Lauren yet? I was just outside and I saw her."

Lauren!

"Shoot, I forgot to talk to her!" I said.

"Well, you have some time now so just go!" PJ exclaimed and pushed me out the door.

I heard him close the door behind me and I was left outside alone.

I glanced over at the Dabneys place and their car was still there. I said to myself that Lauren was home and walked over there.

I have to make things right with her. She needs to know the truth.

I knocked on the door and Mrs. Dabney opened it.

"Ugh..." she grunted.

"Can I speak to Lauren?" I asked, trying to not get distracted by the fact that she hates me even more.

She grunted once more then approved of letting me see Lauren.

She went inside, called Lauren out and shut the door after Lauren came outside.

She never said anything so I started our conversation off.

"I know you're still mad at me, but I have to explain."

"What is there to say, Gabe? You're such a jerk!" She angrily said.

I sighed at her stubbornness.

"Can you just listen to me?" I snapped. Her attitude was getting on my nerves. Now I know how Mom and Dad feel when I never listen.

Surprisingly, she did what was told and shut her mouth.

"Alright....well...." I really didn't know how to explain any of this to her; just staring into those beady, brown eyes takes me to another world.

She widened her eyes like those divas in the reality shows that Mom watches.

"I'm waiting..." She muttered. She's becoming more and more like her grandmother.

Lauren's never been like this. I must've really made her mad.

"To start off, I never set PJ up to make up for my forgetfulness. He was coincidentally there when you came over."

"So you still forgot to tell your girlfriend that you were going?" She said, clearly unsatisfied about what I said to her so far.

"You didn't let me finish..." I grumbled. "I had no idea I was leaving until the night before. "

"That doesn't cut it." She said, angrily.

"Lauren, there's nothing else to say, but I'm sorry." I said, giving up on her.

I could get another girl.

There's no rush, I'm just 14.

Her angry expression was still beveled in her face as I got up to go.

"Wait..." She whispered.

I turned back towards her front porch, I looked at her.

She uncrossed her arms and smiled a bit.

"I'm sorry too."
