Chapter 26: Momma Bear's Back

Amy POV:

I rushed up the stairs as I looked at the building's address once more.

523 MAYBROOK

It was in big, bold letters on a light grey colour of stucco.

The building was ginormous, for one that dealt with extermination jobs here in Denver.

I opened the door and I was standing in my worst nightmare.

A room full of bugs.

Huge, plastic cockroaches, ants, beetles, spiders...you name it.

I looked around me and on some stools were cages, with bugs in them.

I shivered a bit then continued walking to the main desk.

"Ma'am is there a problem?" a worker came up to me and asked.

I made my face look serious again and said, "Hi, I'm Amy Duncan. I am looking for Richard Applebomb."

My face broke out into a slight smile when I said the man's last name.

"I will go check if he's available. If you don't mind, please wait in our waiting room."

He led me to a corner of the room with chairs. The chairs had wings, bug legs, and antennae on them.

"Please take a seat." he gestured, pulling out a chair.

"I'm fine just standing."

"Alright." he said, walking away from me.

I look around the place in disgust and try to wait patiently for Richard to come.

---------------------------------

After a few minutes of feeling creeped out by this bug theme, Richard finally showed up.

"Hello, I'm Richard Applebomb." he points to his name tag.

"Hi."

"Follow me to my office; you're looking for a job, if I'm not mistaken?"

"Well, you're mistaken! I came here to talk about my husband's job!" I snapped, hoping to clear things up.

"Oh, your husband's am exterminator! Which franchise does he operate?"

"Bob's Bugs Begone." I replied.

"Wait. You're his wife... then I've been expecting you." he said, sternly.

"Excuse me?"

"Bob called and 'warned' me." he explained.

I raised an eyebrow at my husband's...goofiness.

"So you wanted to talk about his job?" he asked.

"Yes. Why should his company move to Florida? That's the stupidest thing I ever heard!" I started.

He looked a little alarmed at my tone.

Good.

"He has been in the 'bug' business for many, many years! He's also a loyal worker! And this is how you repay him for many years of service?!" I continued.

"Hold your horses there! We're sending his company to Florida because he's one of the best exterminators in the business! Denver has many different extermination companies here, we thought we could send off our best ones to another state!"

"Well, Bob has a life here in Denver! He grew up here! He has 5 kids here! I just went back to work and now I have to quit my job again to take care if them!? I might never get to return there again! This is crazy!" I snapped.

Richard never replied.

"You know what, I'm leaving! We're gonna find a way to work this out...on our own. So thank you for your so-called 'help'." I nastily exited with my head held up high like I was sure of what I was planning.

But, the truth is, I'm not.

Thank you for the many votes and comments!

Please keep it up!
