Chapter 29: Small World

Teddy POV:

1 MONTH LATER...

I have to admit, I'm actually glad I am on this vacation. There isn't any better way to relax and be happy.

I was sitting in Dad's bug office with my new boyfriend, Kevin.

"Your Dad really likes, bugs huh." he said, staring wide-eyed at the many bug figurines and images throughout the office.

This was his first time here, we spent most of our time in the hotel our family is renting.

I knew from past experience to never introduce a new boyfriend to Dad's bug business at first. But, I think Kevin is ready, now. He's pretty chill about all this bug stuff.

He walked over to the counter where Dad's gigantic cockroach-beetle thing sat.

He patted the body and smirked, "Surprising your Dad put this here. Your Mom really hates it."

"How do you know that?" I asked.

"Oh, well, I met her and I'm guessing she really wouldn't like this here." he mentioned glancing at both the ginormous bug an I.

"Oh, ok." I replied.

His pleasant face became very focused afterwards.

"What's the matter?" I asked, concerned.

"Teddy, we've spent a whole month together, and I have to tell you something." he started, looking deeply into my eyes.

He kneeled down on one knee and continued looking me in the eye.

I had a nervous feeling in my gut.

He reached into his pocket...

"Will you excuse me?" I asked, getting up from my seat and I rushed into one of the small rooms down the hall.

I sat on one of the old beds and rubbed my temples.

Was he going to propose?

What the heck, I'm not ready to get married!?

And besides we only spent one month together.

Kevin's crazy.

"Teddy, you OK?" he called out.

Something about his voice sounded familiar, almost too familiar.

I took a deep breath and stood up, ready to face him.

I walked through the halls and I saw his face, that weird nose staring right at me.

I wanted to ask him about it. That nose looked like an odd version if Pinnochio's, except the tip of Kevin's faced down in a slight curve. But, I didn't want to hurt his feelings.

"Teddy what happened?" he questioned.

"I'm sorry, I can't-"

"You can't what?"

"Marry you." I said in almost a whisper. "I saw you get down on your knee and you reached in your pocket-"

"You got this all wrong. I wasn't proposing!" he assured, stifling a laugh.

I felt a wave of relief wash over me.

"I actually wanted to admit something about myself." he said.

I was quite curious. What was he keeping from me?

He reached for one blue eye and pulled out a contact lens, revealing his true eye colour: deep brown.

Then, he pulled off his blond hair, revealing his lovely chocolate brown hair.

I raised an eyebrow. "Wh-"

Finally, he reached for his creepy nose and pulled off a full face mask and I gasped at Kevin's true identity.

"Sp-Spencer?" I managed to choke out. "What the-"

"I'm sorry for lying this whole time, Teddy. The minute I heard you were coming to Florida, I had an urge to come as well." he started explaining.

"Why did you disguise yourself?" I asked, anger starting to boil inside of me.

"I thought I would have a better chance of becoming closer with you. I had to spend time with you, Teddy. I had to. I couldn't bare-"

My heart started racing, and I was filling up with mixed emotions ranging from anger to disbelief.

"Teddy?" Spencer asked. "Your face is as red as a tomato."

"I-I just need some time to get over all this." I stuttered.

"Ok."

"I think it's best if you leave right now." I added, opening the front door to Dad's office.

He gazed at me sadly and headed for the door.

"We'll talk tomorrow, OK?" he inquired.

"Yes, I need to find out the rest of the truth from you. I have a lot of questions." I confirmed.

He nodded his head, and concluded, "See you tomorrow then, Teddy."

"Bye." was all I had left to say.

Then he left.

I can't believe he fooled me...I was beginning to seriously like Kevin. What are the odds that the next guy whom I'm interested in is actually my ex-boyfriend...

What a small world.
