11: Getting Prepared

Diamond POV ( Leslie in MM)

   "ATTENTION!" Suddenly the school's announcing speaker boomed with the principal's voice through the cafeteria mostly scaring the wits outta most of us...most of them, me.
  "... We would like to announce an upcoming event which we've made it a choice for any student in the second year to attend". There was a pin drop silence in the room patiently waiting for the news the girls and I know. All thanks to Montana who keeps us updated.

   "We are going on a camping trip at the Shoal Creek camping grounds in Atlanta" there were exciting murmurs spreading through the hall. Obviously, the campe- lovers. Urgh!

  "... It would be on the coming Friday so students are expected to collect their prospectors list right in the book store which contains everything you may need...". Well, apparently the rest of the announcement was totally swarm with excitement unfortunately, my table wasn't any different.

  "Lucky for you guys, you got no pros in gettin' your list coz... I've got it!" She pulled out the camping lists for each and everyone. Imagine the squealing and praises Montana got.

   "Did I ever tell how beautiful you look?" Zendaya smiled to her sis.
   "Yea right, its only when I do something that I look beautiful" she rolled her eyes.

   "You are the best girl. You are one big advantage to us Montana. Love you girl" Tamina squealed happily. She's one white girl I've never met before. Very black.

  "Thanks Montana" I mouthed quietly. Am happy she got it for me its just, am kinda nervous.
  "You still nervous right? Don't worry, its gonna be fun coz I know part of your nervousness is you're gonna miss Akiylah, right?"

Oh Ma God! Sweet baby Jesus! Did she just mention Akiylah in front of Leslie? We all shot a shocking look at Tamina who was dumbfounded. Obviously, she forgot herself buh...buh...

  "Who's Akiylah?" Leslie glanced around the table. Sweat broke on my brows and I felt my face heat up.
  "Uh-uh...Ak-Akiylah is Daya's lil' sis and she loves her like mad. Its nothing strange" Zendaya managed a white lie which seem to clear up the atmosphere.

  "Okay. I guess she gon' be beautiful as you Diamond" he said giving me that hot stare. I exhaled a breath I was long holding. Jeez! That was damn close. Tamina had better be careful. I know she means no harm buh I hope she's careful.

  "Okay so, how 'bout we go shoppin' for the trip?"Montana said cooling off the heated atmosphere.
  "Yayy! We're going shopping. I think we better go coz ion think the lessons is gonna be any effective" Tamina tried hiding how embarrassed and nervous she was feeling with what had just happened.

  "We better beat it..."
  "Umm...Ion think I can make it. I've got to do some design works and..." As I spoke , I noticed a bit of disappointment in the girls especially Leslie. I don't wanna depend on them making me a burden on them.

  "No daya, you ain't turning us down and that's final. Now get yo' fine ass up and let's go" I tried speaking but it was just hopeless.
  "Fine. I'll go" I smiled slightly and mistakingly caught Leslie's eye filled with some sort of delight.

  "Let's go then. C'mon, lemme help you with that". He smiled sweetly as he helped with ma mannequin.
  "Thanks" it was more of a whisper than talking.
  "You welcome ma" he winked and you can't imagine wah happened to my cheeks. Why the hell does he has to be this fine. LAWD!

  "Daya,I wanna try and apologize for being a blabbermouth. I know I should be careful with Leslie around. Am so sorry. I..." Now she's just making me feel bad.
  "Come on Tamina, it was a mistake and are meant to happen. Am nah angry atchu, I know you would never betray. You guys have got ma back so I ain't doubting you now. We gotta thank Zendaya for coming up with white lie cooling out everything"
