4. The Storm Part 1

Never deliberately fly into a thunderstorm.  -Robert D. Hales

"Your fathers Hades?" I choked out.

Hades. As in the god of death, the underworld, and evil.

Hayden saw the panic in my expression. "Don't worry. I'm nothing like my dad. In fact, I'm really not that bad of a person."

Aww. Now I feel bad.

"I'm sorry, I didn't mean-"

"It's okay." Hayden smiled. He looked down to the field, and then back at me. "Looks like practice is over. I'll see you around, Arden."

I gave him a tight smile and we both got up and made our way to the field.

Hayden went over to the coach and I caught Ace making his way across the field towards me. "Are you okay?" I asked him as he stood in front of me.

He nodded his head with a smile. "I'm feeling better. In fact I feel great!"

Oh my goodness I absolutely loved his personality. When we saw the coach was free, I spoke.

"Let's go ask the coach if we can join the team." I told Ace. He nodded and we walked forward.

The coach's name tag read 'Coach McAllen.'

"Coach McAllen?" Ace started. The middle aged man turned to us with a bored expression. "We were wondering if there was any space on the team. My friend and I would love to try out."

The coach shook his head. "I don't think so." He didn't even think about it, dammit.

"Coach McAllen, I'm sure if you see us play, maybe you'd reconsider." I assured him.

He let out an irritated sigh. "Fine. Practice is tomorrow after school. Make sure you talk with the captain. After Tomorrow I'll make my decision."

Ace smiled. "Thank you sir, we won't let you down." He chirped.

The coach muttered an 'whatever' and Ace and I turned away.

"Well, tomorrow's going to be interesting." I sighed.

"Who cares, as long as I get to beat some ass on the field." Ace chuckled and I couldn't help but join in.

"Are you sure you're okay?" I asked Ace.

He looked drained. He looked tired. He looked like someone told him he could never eat ice cream again; or anything sweet for that matter.

"I am so not in the mood. I just need to go home and crawl into bed." Ace groaned he leaned his head against his locker.

The sound of thunder filled our ears. It could be heard from outside.

Ace groaned again and bell went off. "Poor Ace. I'll see you at lunch, okay?" I asked him. He mumbled an 'whatever' and we headed to our classes.

It was storming outside, no wonder Ace felt like shit. There was absolutely no hint of sun, therefore he was becoming weak.

As I walked into my first class, I took a seat close to the window. I sighed. I hope Ace was okay. He was never himself when the sun wasn't out.

The students were all mingling and waiting for class to start.
