26. The Unknown
Dying to Know but afraid to find out- Unknown

I laid on my back, staring up at at the ceiling.
All the emotions eventually went away. Of course I was angry, hurt, disappointed -In myself-, and I was exhausted. What happened today was terrible, no doubt. A part of me wants to forget and another part doesn't.
I felt Zane shift next to me. "You've been awake for five minutes and haven't moved a muscle." He said lowly.
I moved my head to face him and I saw him staring at me intently. "Thank you." I whispered. "For bringing me home."
Zane moved closer and his hand ran down my cheek as he looked at my face. "What did I tell you about that?" He asked. "You don't need to."
"I do." I nodded at him. "Do you know what could've happened?"
Zane shook his head with a sigh. "I don't want to think about it. How's your leg?"
We both looked down and the Jacket sleeve was still wrapped around it. "It's healing." I said.
We fell into a comfortable silence. As I stared at the ceiling, I couldn't help but still feel that feeling in my chest. It was hot and I could feel it burning.
"So, Zane," I decided to break the silence. "Tell me about yourself." I said. Zane turned to me with an amused expression.
"You've known me for at least four months now." He said.
I shrugged. "Yeah, but for month, you were an ass to me and the last three months, we've been running around trying to find some mythical book that can put the world to an end."
Zane laughed. "Okay, what do you want to know?"
I deliberated for a while. "I want to know about your childhood." I smiled at him.
Who wouldn't want to know about when Zane was little. I bet he was so cute as a toddler. "My childhood." Zane shook his head. "That's a lot."
"Please.." I drawled out.
Zane sighed. Yay! Story time! "Okay, when I was about three or four, my dad....he started to tell me about my mom. This being a result of being told my dad was a powerful god. Hardly being able to talk, I thought it was pretty cool, you know, super powers and all."
It probably seemed like a ridiculous age to learn about our powers, but that's the time in our lives where our abilities were given to us. We needed to control them immediately, kind of like a girl only having three days to learn about the menstrual cycle before she has her first one.
I laughed quietly as I continued to listen. "But, I also needed an explanation on why my mother couldn't be around." Zane had a small smile on his face as he looked down. "He said that they were in love. She was his everything. If he had the choice, they would have been married, and we could've grown as a family. But, before my dad had to leave, when I was a baby, when we were together, it was one of the greatest parts of his life." He paused and looked up.
"Do you remember her?" I asked.
Zane sighed and shrugged. "Not really...but sometimes, I get...these visions of a woman. She has brown hair and she'd always be smiling. I think that's pretty cool."
That made me smile. "I think that's cool too." I told him. "So, how'd you meet Armani, Nikki, and Ali?" I asked him.
"Well, Nikki and I met in kindergarten. We were a couple of badass kids who didn't follow the rules, so we instantly became best friends. We spent every moment together. When I was nine, I learned she was a disparate, and she learned I was. When our parents 'met' at a PTA meeting, the secret came out. It just brought us closer...she's like a sister to me. We make fun of each other but she's family, you know?"
