The bleachers were filled and the crowds was screaming. The other team was already here and on their side of the field and we were on ours.
Today was the big Rival game but soccer was the last thing on my mind.
Today, we get Ace back. I get my bestfriend back. Today was the day when I would go down into the underworld, retrieve the powerful codex, and along with the closest friends I've ever had, we will stop the world from falling into the hands of a sociopath.
I looked up at the sky...the new moon. It wasn't completely dark yet, but it was getting close.
"You okay?" I heard Armani beside me. I turned to her.
"I'm fine, what about you?" I studied her carefully.
"I've never been so anxious in my life. I could literally pass out any second."
"No, no." I held my hands out. "Please don't faint."
I told her like it would help.
"Can I throw-up then?" She asked. I opened my mouth to respond but the coach blew his whistle. The team quickly united and formed a circle.
"Alright, guys. This is one of the biggest games this season. You girls need to give it your all today."
Everyone seemed anxious as I looked around the circle. Zane looked neutral as always...intimidating. Armani couldn't wear her necklace so she was chewing on her nails. Nikki looked ready to kick ass. Whether on the soccer field, or just in general...either way, she just looked ready to kick ass. Ali seemed lost in thought. I wondered what he was thinking about.
Hayden and his friends...
They seem calm. Too calm. Way too calm. None of them has spoken a word all day, and I'm starting to get suspicious.
Andrew wasn't here...In fact no one has seen him in days. Phoebe either. I wasn't worried, though. I knew what was happening. Nothing wrong with young love, especially when it's meant to be.
"You girls work together...remember, we are one team. One body. One Unit. There's no 'I' in team." Coach told us.
"There is in 'mine." Penny smirked.
"Your point, Polly?" Coach asked.
"Mine, a sin the ball will be mine." I rolled my eyes. "And soon...Zane will be too." She winked at my boyfriend.
I snapped.
I instantly lunged for her but Ali and Zane quickly held me back. They carried me away from the circle as it broke apart.
Ali let go of my arm. "Calm down." Zane whispered in my left ear. I narrowed my eyes as we made our way onto the field.
"I hate her." I gritted out.
"We need you..just stay calm." His lips brushed against my ear. I pursed my lips dramatically.
"I'm calm." I shrugged.
"Just focus on soccer for now. You can do whatever you want later. Promise?"
Zane raised his eyebrows. His dark ebon eyes looked into mine. "I promise." I said like a little baby.
The referee blew his whistle, everyone waiting for the captain to take his place. "Green Brook, Let's go!"
He stepped forward and placed his mouth towards my ear once again. "Kick ass for me, baby." He whispered with a slight growl before making his way to the center of the field.
