Chapter Twenty-Nine
Bailey

I walk towards the door. "Grayson!"

"Coming!"

He runs over, fixing his shirt. I turn around, flattening his shirt. "Are you ready?"

"Why am I so nervous?" Gray says as he shakes his head.

"Not sure, they'll love you. Now, a kiss for good luck and we'll go inside. Okay?"

Grayson nods. I kiss him softly. He smiles and hugs me. "I love you. You're my beautiful baby girl."

"Okay, let's go." I take his hand and we walk inside. "Uncle Glenn, Auntie Johanna, we're here!" I call.

We remove our shoes and Glenn meets us at the door. "Hello!" He hugs me and then Grayson. "So good to see you Grayson!"

"You too, Mr. Glenn."

"Call me Glenn." Uncle Glenn rolls his eyes.

We laugh. "Yes sir." Gray says.

"Bailey!" Blake runs out and hugs me. I hug him back. "You look beautiful, sis."

"You look manly, bro."

We hug again. He kisses my forehead and we walk inside. I say hi to my family and introduce Gray to the rest of them.

"Hey Denice, hey Victor."

"Hey." They reply.

"What's up?" Gray asks.

"Nothing much, how about you?" Vic replies.

"Same old same old."

"Treating my cuz good?"

Grayson smiles at me. I return it. "Yes, he is." I peck his cheek.

"Ew!" My little cousin, Chastity, yells, running by.

We all laugh and I take Gray's hand. He steps closer, wrapping his arm around my waist, kissing my hair. "You're an awesome person." He mumbles.

"Well well well." Mom says behind me.

I tense, slowly turning around.

"You and I need to have a little chat, alone."

"N-no." Awe cmon, you weren't supposed to stutter. You're supposed to be standing up for yourself.

She smirks, grabs my arm, and drags me upstairs.

I look back at Grayson. "Stay here, I'll be back soon!"

He nods, watching us.

When we round a corner, she shoves me against the wall. "You're such a piece of shit, you know he doesn't love you. I don't know why you're putting yourself through this. He'll never love you. You're not good enough."

"Please, leave me alone."

"Fuck that." She slaps me across the cheek so hard I fall down.

"Mom, plea-"

"I am not your mother. I would never give birth to an stupid piece of shit."

I look up at her in horror. "Wh-what do you mean?"

"I wouldn't give birth to a loser, a bitch, an idiot, a failure."

Tears roll down my cheeks. "Leave me alone."

She yanks me up by my hair. "Legally, you're still mine. Up until you're twenty-one. So until then, I get the checks. And the amount of cash is great."

"You're a terrible mother."

"Not true, I treat my son like a golden boy."

"Then why did you raise me?"

"Because your parents didn't want you." She scoffs. "I don't want you."

"Then I'll leave."

"Please do."

Tears stream down my cheeks as I storm downstairs. "Grayson, let's go, we're leaving."

Uncle Glenn looks at me. "Y-you can't leave."

"We have to, she wants me gone."

"You don't have to listen to her."

"It's okay, Glenn. She knows I'm not her mother."

I close my eyes. "Grayson, let's go."

"No, you can stay, sweetie. Diana, you need to leave."

"What?"

"I want to spend time with my family, and you're not my family."

"Whatever." She leaves with James.

"James, you're welcome to stay."

He looks back. "I would love to." He closes the door and we all hear her scream outside.

I smile and hug my uncle. "Thank you."

"You're welcome."
