Chapter 4: Switching Roles
Megan Dalton
Over the past few days, I ignored Matt. Even though we are seat mates in Math class, he's really silent. Even in our practices for Music, he didn't say anything to me, except if it is really that necessary.
Today is Friday and this afternoon, we are indeed performing for our Music project and I'm kind of nervous. Not for me. For Hendricks. One single mistake and we'll never get that exemption from that quiz.
Currently, I'm tuning up my guitar in preparation for our performance. I'm gonna do this poo like nobody else.
And then that's where Matt actually had a weird conversation with me. Well, not actually. Macey was the one who talked to me.
"Hey, Megan. Uhmm, Matt wants you two to switch roles."
"WHAT?!"
"He uhhh... He can't sing."
I crinkle my nose, "What do you mean, he can't sing?! He sangbridiculously awesome yesterday! What the actual fuck happened?!"
"He lost his voice because..." Macey looks at Matt and he shook his head, "He... Uhhh, practiced so hard for this performance?"
"The actual fuck Matt?! Do you have any idea that I don't sing in front of those people who are going to watch!" I spat out quite angrily.
I can sing but not in front of those people! The nerve! This is some kind of joke! This is an understatement!
"Look.. He's so sorry. Please do it? For the sake of your project?" Macey and Matt pleaded.
"Fine. But we'll change songs." I spat out, annoyed. And now I need to practice the song. And this song is quite memorable for me.
I grab my phone from my backpack and review the lyrics of the song. I'm slightly okay with this situation-if you don't include performing on a massive dome 1/4 of the MSG arena.
Okay, Megan. Do this for your grade.

I fix my black and white skater skirt and my sleeveless cardigan. I'm quite nervous now. I'm performing in front of all these people... In front of Roy. Roy has heard me sing, many times already... And I heard him sing too. And then my mind flashed back to this one incident that I'll never even try to forget.
>>•>>Flashback<<•<<
"Meg, babe, are you okay?" Roy asked me as we were in his treehouse. The two of us liked to stay up in the treehouse and pattern out the constellations. And now that were up here, I am sure as hell sleepy.
"Oh babe I'm fine. Just... Sleepy." I yawn and cuddle in his arms. In his arm, I feel safe, like he's the guardian angel God has gifted me. Oh wait, he is an angel in disguise. Sweet, perfect Roy Christian.
"Do you want me to sing me our song?" He asks and I nod.
He then hummed our song to my ear, "take my hand, I'll teach you to dance, I'll spin you around, won't let you fall down. Would you let me lead, you can step on my feet. Give it a try, it'll be alright."
Roy caressed my cheeks and began to sing the next part, "the rooms hush hush and now's our moment, take it in feel it all an hold it. Eyes on you, eyes on me, we're doing this right."
