Chapter 20: Schemes
Megan Dalton
I know it was him. Just by the look and the voice-I know it was him. I've memorized how he walks. I've memorized how he stutters. I memorized how he held my hand. I memorized his touch. Never in my life would I expect to have contact with him-ever. I just know he's out of my league already because I have Matt but all of the sudden, those fucking feelings I discarded months ago came back with just a touch I could've avoided.
Stupid string. Stupid me. Stupid Matt for picking a very unique string. Stupid Valentine Ball. Stupid Roy Christian Davis for picking the gold string!
I really have no idea that he doesn't realize who I am; knowing that my hair colour is different from the others. I don't understand why he's so oblivious! Seriously, has this ball made everybody oblivious? Oh fuck the world!
Well, here I am, loathing this dance we are sharing now. None of us were talking since I didn't want to stutter.
"So, uhmm. What's your name, beautiful?" Roy says as we dance to Say Something by A Great Big World. I bite my lip. "You first." I say, trying to muffle out my voice so he doesn't know it's his ex-girlfriend he's dancing with.
"Roy. Roy Davis." He says. I see his faint smile. He still looks damn gorgeous.
"Meg. Megan Dalton." I say, with the courage I have. I really need to get from his grasp, like right now!
"Wait-Meggy?" He looks at me intently. I nod at him. I see that fucking adorable smile again.
"You look-beautiful. Breath-taking. Wow." He says. I bet this guy's checking me out and I can't see because he has a mask.
"Thanks?" I perk up. Uh, I really wanna end this now. Like, now now now now!
"You're so beautiful I really don't know whether I'll choose you or Anya." He smiles with humour. How dare he compare me to his fucking girlfriend!
"Well, pick the second one, dude. Because if you did love the first one, there wouldn't be the second one." With that, I smile at his horrific face and turn my back and walk away. I plaster a triumphant grin on my face as I approach our table and see that Queen is sulking.
"Somebody looks grouchy." I tease her and she groans.
"Why didn't you guys tell me that it was Cory the fucking Lancaster? Why the fuck didn't you tell me?!" She yells at me and I chuckle as I shake my head. "We were trying to warn you but you never caught our attention. Well, you had fun, I presume?"
"I hate you!"
"Love you too, Queens!" I blow a kiss at her. She groans and just concentrates on her cell.
"It's not just you who got a bad dance, Queen. Trust me, I got one too." I sigh.
"Who was it Meg?"
"Roy, the one and only fucker." I tell her, exhaling carbon dioxide.
"WHAT?!"
"Uh-huh. I can't believe myself too. But luckily, I got my awesome skills on insulting people back and decided to use my special powers against him. I really caught him off-guard!" I punch my fist in the air with a mad grin.
She giggles, "You my friend are my idol! I can't believe you managed to pull that off!" But before I could even respond, someone startled us. He's back.
"Queen, sorry for disturbing you two but can I have my princess back?" Queen giggles again. "I wouldn't mind, Hazel Gra-I mean, Matt. Teehee, TFIOS madness dudes." Well, here's the TFIOS moment again. Matt smiles and drags me to the dance floor. All About Us started playing. Oh fuck. This is very convenient, I say sarcastically.
