Chapter 29: Doppelganger Past Meets Me Present Tense
Megan Dalton (Or Asher, whatever)
So this is Manila, Philippines. It’s a nice place filled with nice people. And also, I’m stuck in the Californian timezone here. It’s 12 midday here and it’s 9 pm in California soo… I’m sleepy—even though I slept all throughout the entire trip. Our plan was to go to Iloilo, where Aki lived before so we’re in the next flight going there. Then tomorrow, we’ll be going to the real vacation. So yeah, the best vacation.
Aki went ahead and decided to call her best friends telling them that she has arrived. I decided to check my phone too but fuck it, no signal of t-mobile. Ugh, can you not?
“Why the long face?” V sat beside me, as we wait for the plane.
“No signal, babe. I can’t text my dad!” I grumbled, pouting in dismay. I wanted to call dad and tell him that this place is hella awesome. But I can’t.
“It’s okay, Ash. You can always snapchat your dad.”
“Do you think I’m an idiot? My dad doesn’t use snapchat! Gosh, he’s 48 and he isn’t a teen, V.”
“Okay, fine. Whatever.” He rolled his eyes. I adored Val—I really do but somehow, I kind of miss the feeling that he was here. If the whole thing didn’t happen, I would have been here with him now. But it happened and life did go on so… I took the risk and forgot that son of a bitch.
“Guy’s I’m here already! I can’t wait to see you three! Ara na kamo sa airport? Shit, my flight’s delayed 2 hours pa so okay lang nga ma wait kamo?” I heard Aki say. I don’t understand her, at all. What’s she talking about? Ugh, why don’t I speak her language?
“Aki, we don’t fucking understand you.” Gen looked at her with a serious face.
“I don’t care. Pabay.e niyo lang ko.” She said in reply.
“Wait, what?” We all look at her as if she had sprouted three more heads.
“Oh shit, sorry. I meant, leave me alone.” So that’s what she meant. We all look so stupid, don’t we? But stupidity, thank you for letting me meet these group of people. I love them to death.
Gen and I burst out laughing. She was so into her friend’s conversation and she was like speaking a language alien to us. What the hell, Aquena?
“Well she’s hella weird.” Gen sits beside me. The guys were dozing themselves. “Yeah, I noticed.” I told her, yawning in the process.
