Chapter 25: Chances
Matt Hendricks
"Val?!" I shouted at the phone. No way. It can't fucking be. He betrayed me. He fucking betrayed me.
"Miss me?" He said and I grit my teeth. I wish I could answer that I never did but I can't. I missed this idiot even though he betrayed me.
"Of course. Why wouldn't I miss the friend who betrayed me?" I spat out angrily. The gang looked at me with a questioning look. I glared at them and then just ignored their snide remarks.
"Dude, calm the fuck down. It's been a year." He told me.
"Oh yeah. A year since you bailed on our friendship." I muttered.
"Can you just forget about that?! Come on Matty, grow up." He said. How dare he tell me to grow up. It's just that we had a fight because of the bitch Anya. She started all of this. Her tactics bitched out our friendship.
"Whatever." I said. "So what's with the sudden call, idiot? After a year then you decide to just call me?"
"Can you just drop it already?!"
"Chill, man. I was messing with you." There's still a bit of Edward Cullen left for me and I am thankful for that. That's a part where I never ever want to forget.
"Oh. so yeah, how are you? Still with her?" He asked. Val Conner and I had a fight--for a bitch. Anya was the main reason. I don't want to go on details here because for sure, it will bring back those damned memories.
"No." I said bluntly.
"Really? And I thought you said you two would lead to happily ever after."
"Shut up, Val."
"I'm just kidding. So, who is the girl you're with now?" He asks me. It pains me to answer that question. Mainly because Megan and I were never really that official. It was like a fling--but for me it's more than that.
"Do you remember Megan Dalton? Roy Davis' girlfriend?" I ask him. I wish this idiot of a former best friend still remembers.
The other line went silent. What is the fucktard doing?
"Uhhh, Val? Are you alive in there? Or has some vampire creeped upon you? Answer me!"
"Geez, sorry! I was fixing my shoelaces. I'm off to the hospital. My soon-to-be girlfriend was operated." Soon to be girlfriend? Well, this retard has found the one, I guess.
"So do you remember her?"
"Uhmm... yeah I do. So she's in a relationship with you?"
"Sort of?"
"A fling?! I never thought Matt Hendricks go steady with flings! Oh my god, this is a new record!" Val exclaimed over the phone and I role my eyes and slap the shit out of him mentally. This guy is so unpredictable.
"Shut up dude."
"So yeah, I gotta go. Asher might be awake by now." He said.
Wait, Asher?
Megan Asher...
"Asher?"
"My soon to be girlfriend, bud!" Val exclaims again. "What's her full name?" I questioned. I hope it's not Meg, I hope it's not Meg.
It took a moment before Val answered me back. "Asher... Brittany. Yeah, Asher Brittany's her name." It's not Meg.
"Oh." I muttered. A mixture of disappointment and relief came through me. Yeah, I'm relieved that it's not Megan who my ex-best friend is liking but I'm disappointed because I thought I was just a step closer to Megan. I was a step closer to my immortality.
