Chapter 31 - Alexander's POV

"Dad, I don't understand her..." Nakatulalang sabi ko sa Dad ko. Kakalibing lang kasi ni Mommy sa sementeryo and all of them were here with me, Mama Cheska and my other half-siblings.

Hindi ko alam. Hindi ko alam kung anong mararamdaman ko. I feel numb. Empty.

Yes, she was my mother... but I never felt she was to me.

Gusto nga rin niyang maghiwalay kaming dalawa ni Evie sa hindi kong maintindihan na kadahilanan. She wanted to get rid of the happiness that I have. My family.

I was just staring blankly at her grave. Bago kasi ako pumunta sa restaurant para makipagkita kay Evie ay pinigilan niya ako. She even told me to stop chasing Evie dahil iiwan lang din ako nito. She told me Evie was leaving me for some places.

Pero sinuway ko siya. Umalis pa rin ako. But she followed me. At 'yung sinasakyan niyang taxi ay naaksidente.

"Does she even love me?" I asked out of nowhere, still staring at the ground.

Naramdaman ko naman ang pagtapik ni Dad sa balikat ko, "Your mom... always loves you, Alexander. She may had a bad way of showing it to you, pero mahal na mahal ka ng Mommy mo."  I don't know if he was just consoling me. I don't know what to feel.

"Minahal mo rin ba siya, Dad?" I asked him suddenly. 'Nung 3 years ako ay nag-annul silang dalawa and in that young age, I don't understand why they had to do it. Pagkatapos kasi ng annulment nila, Mommy changed. Dad remarried. He married again his first wife which was Mama Cheska, his one true love.

Narinig ko namang ang pagbuntong-hininga ni Dad, "I tried... I tried, Alex. But some things are just not meant to be. Your mom was a very good friend to me. She was a kind woman. She was there for me in my crucial years, Alex. Hindi niya ako iniwan... pero hanggang doon na lang ang nararamdaman ko para sa kanya. I don't want to hurt her with lies. So... I told her the truth."

Hindi ko alam. Alam kong masyadong kumplikado ang buhay ni Mommy. She was always distant to me.

"In her last breath, she told me she was sorry." 'Nung nag-aagaw-buhay si Mommy sa emergency room, inabot niya sa akin ang kamay niya. I held it. Hinawakan niya ang kamay ko ng mahigpit... then I heard her whispering sorry... then she was gone.

"Alex, anak..." Napalingon naman ako at nakita si Mama Cheska na naiiyak. Lumapit naman siya sa akin at niyakap ako.

Mama Cheska has always been good to me. Kahit anak ako sa labas ay itinuring pa rin niya akong tunay na anak niya. She accepted me and became a good mother to me. Siya ang pumuno sa pwesto ni Mommy sa akin. Mama Cheska is my Dad's first love. His first wife... but Dad got my mom impregnated bago pa man sila naging mag-asawa si Mama. Kinailangan nilang magdivorce then Dad married my Mom - for me, so that I will have a complete family.

Pero hindi 'yun nagtagal. They got annulled. Dad married Mama Cheska again and now they're happy. And I could see it in their eyes... unlike my mom.

"Nandito lang kami lagi para sayo, anak." Sabi sa akin ni Mama habang hinahaplos ang likod ko. She was soothing me.

I just hugged her tightly.

I cried.

I lost everything that I love.
