Chapter 15: Greatgrandchild

[ODETTE’S POV]

So the nurse told us na hindi nga daw pwedeng magpapasok ng bisita sa room ni Georgina. Lolo’s orders. Si Lance lang daw ang andun. Psh. And according to the nurse… it is highly ordered that Ms Odette Lopez, Ms Eunice Fajardo, Ms Alyssa Wong and Ms Zia Cruz are not allowed to enter without further approval.

So fine. Tapos pinapunta nya kami sa office ni Dra Cho, where my lolo is. Actually, Dra Cho is Dr Cho’s wife (obviously). And Dr Cho, if you remember, is Marco’s doctor. Hihi. La lang.

Pag pasok namin don, nakita namin si lolo na nakikipag kwentuhan kay Dra Cho.

“O, you’re here. Dra Cho, I’d like to introduce Vince Alvarez to you. My future grandson-in-law. And of course you know Odette.” Introduce ni lolo.

Lakas maka-legit ng ‘future grandson-in-law’ ni lolo ha. I bet he’s still clueless about Vince’s new girlfriend. Ugh.

“Of course I do. Kamusta naman si Marco? Are you still in touch?” Dra Cho

Wow. Thanks for asking ha. Pero, why should I worry about Vince nga naman. Di ba we’re over na?

“He’s doing good. Naka-recover na sya and I heard he’s back on playing soccer in States.” Sagot ko.

“Well that’s great. I just heard from my husband that—“ a nurse interrupted her.

“Dra, pwede na daw pong makita yung baby. Just so you know if ever Mr Lopez wants to see the child.” Sabi nung nurse.

Tinignan naman ni Dra Cho si lolo as if asking if he wanted to and my lolo just nodded and smiled. Kaya pumunta na rin kami sa nursery.

There are only three babies. And I could not identify who’s Georg’s son. Bakit ba kasi ganito ang babies pag bagong panganak? Sobrang magkakamukha!

Later on, may nilapit sa may window na baby. Then I read on the label at the end of the crib Baby Reyes.

Nung tinignan ko yung baby, parang bigla nalang lumambot yung puso ko. Yes, I know, I very hate this child. I even threatened this before. Pero now, ay ewan. He’s so peaceful and naïve to be threatened like what I did. I am so rude.

Hindi sya kasing puti ni Lance. He got his mother’s skin tone. And it’s great to hear na healthy daw ang baby at mabigat.

I suddenly have this urge to carry him. But I’m afraid. He looks fragile.

“He looks like her mother, isn’t he?” my lolo said while staring at the baby.

“He is. Alam mo, lo. I pity this kid. I pity him kasi hinate ko agad sya. Look at him, he’s too innocent to be hated.” Unconsciously, I’m really smiling.

“That’s my girl.” Niyakap ako ni lolo.

Napatungo ako, and I was astonished to see Vince staring at me… like he’s really staring at me for a long time. And he’s smiling. The smile I missed. Nginitian ko nalang din sya.

“You know what, lolo? I suddenly want to have a baby na rin.” I said as I give back lolo a hug.

*Coughs!*

Eh? Sabay kaming napatingin ni lolo kay Vince na bigla nalang nasamid. Like seriously? Hindi naman sya umiinom or what tapos nasasamid sya mag-isa don? Weird! And when he realized na nakatingin kami ni lolo sa kanya, he composed himself.
