The door opened and the brass kobold walked in.
"How goes your celebration with the townsfolk?" I asked.
"Fine." He said. "I spent 1st day drinking and talking with them. Then the next 3 days I spent with Tiaso and chatted with her, then I did some experiments the next 3 days. I tried to see what you were doing but you didn't answer."
I did my best to hid my surprise.
7 days!? I thought to myself, though it shouldn't have surprised me. We've done it with Jamada at least 3 times, and the longest we have gone is 3 days.
"Well you know I don't like to party with a lot of people." I said. "Plus I was so intent on reading I didn't hear you. My apologies."
He nodded, seeming satisfied, but as I looked into his eyes I saw that some was wrong. Ever since the incidence in Azir he seemed upset. Jamada is a close friend, the only friend I could truly trust besides my brother.
"What troubles you Jamada?" I asked him, putting the book down.
He stood there for a moment, looking down at the ground, when he finally spoke.
"When I was talking with Tiaso, she asked were and if we would be going." He said. "I said I did know, and told her how long we've been down and and all that and asked if we been to Azir."
I chuckled.
"Yeah, well, she then said we could try going to The Shackles." He said. "But I said it would be too long of a walk, and that they would say the same thing the other nations do." He then looked down with a depressed look on his face.
"Why would we go all the way to The Shackles?" Venom telpathicly asked. "And why in the 9 hell's would we walk?"
"Who said we had to walk." I said out loud, a plan coming to mind.
I walked out of the room to the nearest bookshelf and began to skim through until I found what I wanted.
I went back in and flipped through until I found a map of Rahadoum. I pointed to a green circle near the town we were in and looked at Jamada.
"The Eternal Oasis." I said. "A large oasis that has been around since the foundation of Rahadoum, and many people have gone in, and very few have escaped."
"I'm willing to wager that there is something in there that can fly us to the Shackles."
"What?!" Jamada and Venom said.
"It is madness." Venom said. "Who knows what's in there."
"Indeed it is dangerous for most people." I said. "But we will have the gauntlet." I said telepathically to Venom, while also saying "But you will be with us." I said to Jamada.
"It's crazy." Jamada said. "For all we know we could be walking into the lair of a ancient green dragon."
"And dragons can fly." I said. "And will no doubt feed the gauntlets hunger." I thought to Venom.
He nodded, understanding my reasoning. "It will be dangerous." He thought back.
"I would be disappointed if it wasn't." I thought back.
"It's crazy." Jamada said again. "There's no way we would survive."
"My friend." I said. "If we can take down a giant scorpion, I'm sure we could take down whatever is in there. And just imagine the things you learn in there. The different plants for you to collect and study, monsters to examine, and for all we know, we could find a Brass dragon lair."
The brass kobold looked up at me with a blank face.
"Desna weeps." He whispered.
I smiled.
