Caught in the Middle

The office was quite large, with two bookshelves on the left wall and one big one on the back wall, full of books. To the right was a hammock, a suit of black armor, display cases of jews, gems, and monster body parts, like a unicorn horn, a dragon tooth, a demon claw, and countless other objects. A desk stood in front of the bookshelf in the back. On it was a goblin skull with two jeweled daggers in it, some gold coin piles, a jar with a black slime, and a stuffed red wyrmling dragon statue sitting.

I started my search at the display cases, hoping the device would be there and I can leave as soon as possible. As soon as I began searching, I heard a loud crack, and a scream appeared right after it. I ignored them and focused at the task at hand. I searched quickly, but thoroughly, but found no black box. If I had a thieves tools though, I probably would have stole some of the stuff inside. I scanned the bookshelves but I didn't see it resting on any of the shelves. I then went to the desk and started to look through the drawers.

"Rattle, you need to hurry." I heard Bukka say in my mind.

"Hang on." I said. "Just give me a few more mi-"

"You need to leave NOW!" Bukka said frantically. As he said this, I realized the crackling sound had stopped.

I opened the last drawer and found the black box sitting there. I quickly grabbed it and closed it, silently of course, and began to walk out. However, I only took three steps before I saw the elf quickly walk in with an angry face. I stepped to the side as she pasted me, and when to quickly walk out, but the tiefling appeared and walked in, closing the door behind him, locking it.

Sh*t. I stood next to the wall, and the door, not moving.

"I hate you." Was the first thing the elf said when the door closed. The tiefling laughed.

"You know good and well that it wasn't her who said it." She said, her voice rising. "She would never say such a thing like that." He rolled his eyes and waved it away as if it were a fly.

"I'm sure if it were someone else you wouldn't have bat an eyelash." He said walking over to his desk.

"Because she is the only person in this horrible place who survived." She said. "The only person who hasn't been corrupted and twisted to met your needs you monster." The tiefling smiled. "Yet." He said. She growled an inhuman growl. A VERY inhuman growl.

"Rattle. are you ok?" Bukka asked.

"Im ok." I said. "They haven't detected me yet."

"And what about you?" He asked walking over to her. "Aren't you still the kind, gregarious creature that I enslaved years ago? " She snarled.

"I still am." She said. "Just not around you, you hell spawn bastard." She quickly fell to the ground, with the red aura around her again. She opened her mouth, but no scream came out, and she hugged her sides in pain. She was in this position for a few moments, before she got up, shaking, and it looked as though something was commanding her to move. Herzago grabbed her face ruffly with his free hand, while the other rested on the sword hilt.

"Know your boundaries Emaerelth." He said in a dark tone, before letting go of the sword and her face. She fell to the ground gasping. I found the name to be very unelven, but I quickly dismissed it. He walked to his desk and sat down and propped his feet on the desk.....but immediately put them down and looked at his drawers. "Someones been here."

Uh-oh. I think.

"See if anyone is here." He said. "They still could be here in his room." She waved her arms and once she was done, looked around the room. Her eyes then landed on mine.

I brought my hands up to launch a spell at her, but she continued to looked around the room.

"Anyone?" Herzago asked when she was done.

"No one." She said. "Perhaps it is simply your imagination." He growled.

"Leave." He said. "Go bother someone else. Go heal that kitsune girl, I'm sure she will need some healing." She growled again, and walked to the door but left it open. I quickly followed her out and got next to Bukka.

"You have the device?" He asked.

"I do." I said back. "Now let us be gone from this place." We quietly left the hallway and into the open room with all the furniture. Everyone was gone, except for a kitune on her knees crying, with her bare back exposed revealing six long bloody lines across her back. Emaerelth walked over to her with a blanket and wrapped around her body.

"Come Tamora." She said in a calm, sweet voice. "Lets go heal your wounds." She grabbed a leather vest that was on the ground next to her, so she probably got the blanket for a reason. Emaerelth grabbed Tamoras shoulders and guilded her to another room on the other side of the building.

"I hate him." I heard the kitsune whisper.

"I know." The elf whispered back.

"I rather be dead." The kitsune said and new tears rolled down her face. The elf didn't say anything, but I saw a look of sadness on her face. As I casted a new spell of flight on me and flew out of the building, I found myself pitying a second person tonight.
