The sound of Albert's footsteps down the hallway made me quietly squeal with excitement to myself. I was so proud of myself for finally doing something for him without him asking me to. Even if it was just a small gesture, it was a big step for me.
"Jade?" he called out, stepping into the kitchen and rubbing the sleep from his eyes.
"Albert!" I jogged over to him and kissed him on the cheek. "I made breakfast!"
Albert blinked a few times and continued to rub his eyes. He probably thought he was dreaming or something and I don't blame him for that.
Noticing his confusion, I decided to put his mind at ease and explain myself. "I thought about stuff. I thought about how you're probably just as devastated as I am about Jules...and I've just been selfish, only thinking about myself. I need to stop being a fucking baby and act like a grown up." I said, nodding to myself. "I've never really asked, and I'm so sorry...but how are you, Albie?"
"Fuck that! We can talk about me later!" Albert pulled me into a tight hug, making me smile. "I'm so glad you're feeling better, Jade."
"I wouldn't have been able to do it without you. Thank you so much for never leaving me when I was at my worst." I felt like crying, but I was done with that shit for a while. "You're the best friend I've ever had."
"I could cry right now, but the smell of that bacon is mesmerising." he said, making me laugh as he pointed at the breakfast spread I'd laid out, consisting of bacon, eggs and toast.
"Same! Let's eat!"
Albert nodded as he checked his watch. "We've gotta be quick though! Work in twenty minutes!"
"Oh, shit! You eat while I get dressed!" I said as I scrambled into my bedroom.
"Yes, ma'am!"
Albert and I soon headed out and parted ways when I had to go pick up a few coffees for Colin and his crew.
When I was finished, I quickly made my way back to the studio.
"Black, two sugars," I said, handing a cup to my boss, Colin, then turning to Albert, who was cleaning a camera leans. "You wanted tea, right Albert?"
"Yes please!" replied Albert with a smile.
I nodded and handed him the cup, then distributing the rest of the cups to the crew.
"You're looking bright today." Colin said to me as he pieced together some sort of camera.
"Thanks," I grinned.
"Oh, Jade!" he reached over to hand me a piece of paper. "Could you call up that number and say I can fit them in at four."
"Sure thing, boss." I gave him a two finger salute and jogged into his office to make the call.
"You were on fire today!" Albert said as we started our walk home.
"I felt great!" I replied, beaming. "I'm really pissed off that I wasted a portion of my life being a miserable idiot, but that's in the past I guess."
"Let's just hope you can keep it up. Remember...if you start feeling down again, tell me immediately, okay?"
"I will, thank you."
"Wanna get pizza?" Albert asked with a smirk.
"You know I do!"
