Chapter Four

"Goodnight, Raven," my mom says, closing my door and the lights. "Sleep tight. You have a test tomorrow. Get some rest, okay?"

"Night, Mom," I answers, resting my head on my pillow. "Thanks."

I close my eyes, expecting sleep to come. But unfortunately, it doesn't. I just stay in bed, unable to fall asleep. I eventually sit up, annoyed.

"Can't sleep?" I hear someone whisper.

"Yeah," I answer softly.

I turn on the lamp beside my bed.

"Don't you ever sleep?" I ask, looking at the dark blue eyed, black haired, pale boy smiling at me.

"No."

"Why?"

"Because I don't need to."

"But you said that Supernaturals need sleep too."

"I know. But I don't need sleep."

"That's not really an explanation."

Blake shrugs.

"I don't know why. I can sleep, and sometimes it's better if I do but I usually don't sleep because sleeping won't help my energy level in any way," he answers

"Could I be like that too?" I ask.

"Have you slept before?"

"Yes."

"Was it hard to fall asleep?"

"No."

"Well then, probably no."

"How come I can't fall asleep anymore these days then?"

"You're brain's still getting used to this knowledge about this world. After you get used to it, you'll fall asleep perfectly fine," Blake answers.

I nod, although I'm still slightly confused.

An awkward silence falls between us.

"Hey, we didn't finish last night," Blake suddenly says.

"What do you mean?" I ask.

"Will you be my girlfriend?" Blake asks, taking my hand.

I smile.

"Yes," I respond.

Blake leans in, so we're sharing a breath.

"Good," he whispers, before pressing his lips against mine.

The entire night, we're just making out 'til our hearts are content. Kissing, talking, kissing, kissing, talking, kissing, kissing, talking, talking, yeah. Not much else.

It's kind of weird. I've never had a boyfriend (not that I've never wanted one, just my parents would kill me) but I'm 19 now. They can't control me anymore.

"Where do you live?" I ask Blake, around 5:00.

"A couple blocks away from you," Blake answers. "You'll notice my house."

"How?" I ask.

"It's the only white one on the street."

"Would your parents be home?"

"My parents are dead."

My breath catches in my throat. I did not expect that reply.

"Oh," I choke out.

"We're immortal, remember?"

I nod but to be completely honest, I had totally forgotten about that.

"How do you know how old you're going to stay?" I ask.

"We all stop growing when we turn 20," Blake explains. "You'll stop growing and maturing and everything. That's when you'll have to move away from your parents. Because honestly, they're gonna get really freaked out when you stay looking young forever."

"So you're twenty?"

"What makes you think that?"

"You've been watching me since I was born. You haven't changed a bit."

"Yeah, I'm '20'," Blake says, putting air quotations. "But basically, I'm 361."

"How do you keep count?" I ask, in shock.

I can't even imagine being older than 80.

Then I think of a question that hasn't occurred to me, although it should have.

"And why have you been watching me for my life?" I ask.

"I was assigned to."

"Um..."

"It's hard to explain."

"You're gonna have to," I snap back.

Blake shakes his head.

"When the time comes, you will understand. When you are assigned. But right now, you have enough going on in your head," Blake replies.

I sigh, giving in.

"Do we give birth?" I suddenly ask.

"No."

I know it was a completely unrelated question but that's how I work, sometimes. Whatever I think just comes out of my mouth before I can even acknowledge what I'm about to say.

"Is our relationship going to go public?" Blake asks.

I know he doesn't mind if it does, he just needs my approval.

I think for a moment.

"No," I answer.

Blake doesn't seem to care, which I'm grateful for.

We're talking about really random things...but we're kind of like that. Random.

About 15 minutes later, Blake gives me a quick kiss and leaves.

I lie down on my bed, actually starting to doze off. Well too bad for me, because there's only 10 minutes until my mom comes to 'wake me up'. But I fall asleep neverless. And those 10 minutes of sleeping were probably the longest in my life. Which is good, by the way. A good 10 minutes to rest my brain from everything that's been going on.

So much has changed since I first met Blake.
