Heart Like Stone (Greyson Chance)

Chapter fifteen

I was walking with Alli and Cody back inside, when they decided to take me back to the stupid food court. I told them I wasn’t going to eat, but they insisted. I kept my mouth closed while Cody held out the bag of chips.

    “I don’t want them,” I shook my head.

    “C’mon Rachel! You can’t starve yourself!” Alli was sitting next to me.

    “I’m just...not hungry.” I looked at him.

    “Just..one.”

    I rolled my eyes and took a chip, then put it in my mouth.

    “Happy?”

    He smiled and brought me back up to Greyson. Alli wanted to stop and get a soda first.

    We made it to the elevator and went all the way up to the 4th floor.

The second after we walked into the room, Greyson’s doctor did too.

    “I have something I’d like to speak to you about.” He took a chair from the corner of the room and sat down. I sat on the edge of Greyson’s bed, and Cody went to sit next to Tanner and Alexa on the window seat.

    “..What is it?” Lisa looked worried.

    “Its almost been a month, and Greyson has shown no sign of improvement.”

    I turned to Greyson, then back at the doctor guy. “So?”

    “So, I think..I think you might want to consider, pulling the plug..” He said it slowly, waiting for our reactions.

    “HOW CAN YOU EVEN SAY THAT?!” I shot up. They wanted to pull the plug on Greyson, the only thing actually keeping him ALIVE right now? Whats wrong with them?! They unplug that and he dies. I can’t let that happen!

    “Listen, he’s not getting better, he might just be getting worse. Keeping him on this isn’t doing him any good.”

    “It is doing him good. He’s still alive isn’t he?” I said it with a straight face.

    “Keeping him on it costs money. Its not even the nice thing to do. He’s hanging there-”

    “Stop. Talking.” I scowled at him. Cody looked at me with wide eyes. “You, need to give him time. I will pay for this crap myself. But you CAN NOT take him away from me.” I stood up. Alli walked into the room then. She bit her lip and quietly walked over to Cody...They whispered to each other, Cody must be telling her what was going on because her mouth dropped and she looked at me. I’m sure everyone was looking at me by now.

    “Mrs. Chance...” The doctor looked at Lisa, who was just staring at her son. Without taker her eyes off of Greyson, she slowly spoke.

    “Give him another week. If nothing happens...then we unplug.”

    My mouth dropped open. Was she serious? I looked around the room, Alexa was looking at her feet. Tanner was looking at his mother with a ‘poker face’. Scott was looking at Greyson, with his hand in Lisa’s. Cody and Alli were looking at me.

    I just looked at all of them. I shook my head and sat back down on the bed.

    “So, a week.” The doctor asked.

    Scott nodded, and the doctor left. It took everything I had not to freak out.

    I pulled out my phone.

    “Calling Natalie?” Cody asked. I nodded my head yes, and left the room.
