I sat next to Natalie, I watched whatever she was doing on her laptop. At the moment, she was going through modeling websites. She frowned at me as she was checking her emails. Her eyes got big.
“Rachel...” She tilted her head. “I just got offered to shoot an add for this girls new clothing line.”
“Thats great!” I smiled at her.
“No..not really. Its in Boston.”
My heart sank. Boston? That was across the country.
“Boston?” I repeated.
“Yeah. I Don’t have to go, I mean, I have to stay here with you, especially now,” She smiled.
“No, this is huge, you have to go.” I smiled at her. Trying to make it as convincing as possible. It wasn’t working I could tell. “Please? Just do it. I don’t mind.” I nodded.
“All right. Its for a week,” She looked at me, I continued with my fake smile. “I leave in a two weeks..”
“Its fine! Trust me on this.” I shrugged and looked at my phone.
From GBear;
“Things Growing Bright In The Distance, We’re Rising High...”
I smiled at it, and wrote the next line. I felt better talking to him, even if we weren’t actually talking at all.
We went back and forth like that for 15 minutes, until the replies stopped. He must of fallen asleep. I looked over at Natalie, she was still awake. It was only 10:30.
“I’ll um, I’ll be right back.”
Natalie looked up, “Sure...”
I smiled at her and left the room, taking my phone with me. I tiptoed past her parents room - her dad usually went to bed early- and snuck downstairs where I could be alone. I sat in the corner of the living room on a chair and dialed Cody’s number.
It only rang once.
“Hello? Rachel?”
“Cody!” I whispered. It was really good to hear his voice.
“Everything all right? How are you?”
“I’m fine, still shocked. I mean, finding out that I’m...I’m..” I couldn’t finish.
“..Pregnant.”
“Yeah, that. I’ve been...pregnant, for almost two months without knowing..Its just..” I tried searching for the right word.
“Weird.” Cody laughed.
“Yeah. I miss you guys.” I smiled.
“We miss you too, Greyson is like dying over here.” He paused for a second, “Not..seriously dying.”
I laughed quietly, “I know.”
“He feels awful, Rachel. He thinks your mad at him, he thinks your mad because he did this to you. Its..eating him alive, Rachel.”
“You need to get in there, and tell him he is wrong I don’t care if he’s sleeping.” My eyes started to water. “This isn’t his fault, Cody, not one bit of it. I was stupid and..” I broke down crying right there.
“Rachel, it will be ok, I promise.” He took in a breath, as if he was about to cry too.
“Cody Robert, don’t you dare start too,” I laughed.
“I’m not, I’m not,”
“I have to go, before Natalie wonders where I am.” I sighed.
“Ok,”
“Seriously. Make sure Greyson knows...its not his fault.” I shook my head. “Ok Cody?”
“Promise. Talk to you tomorrow,”
“All right, and Cody?”
“Yes?”
“..Thank You. For Everything.” I smiled.
“Your welcome, goodnight,”
“Goodnight Cody.” I smiled and hung up.
