I watched through the reflection of my mirror, Lina laying on my bed with her phone in hand, texting away as I straightened my hair. I sighed. "Lina, we need to talk."
She looked up, and walked over to me. "Uh oh." She said. "That's never good."
"No, trust me, it's not what you think." I locked my hands with hers and walked her over to the bed. "Just promise you won't get upset, okay?"
I sighed once more. "My mom and dad were looking at some colleges for me to go to, and they want me to go to one in Oklahoma."
Worry suddenly washed over Lina's face. "But I thought we were gonna go to a college here in California together. If you move to Oklahoma, I'll never see you again."
"That's the thing." I said. "I want you to go with me. My parents want us to move after graduation. We can still be together."
"But what about all my friends and family here?"
"Lina, babe, you're almost 18. Do you really want to stay here with your family all your life? It's time for you to go out and explore the world. I want us to explore it together."
"I guess you're right." Lina said with a smile. She wrapped her arms around me for a hug.
"Oh, and, one more thing." I said, looking down at Lina who was still holding me tightly in her embrace. "Prom is next Friday. Maybe we should go together."
"I'd like that." Lina said with a cute little giggle and giving me a quick peck on the lips.

After wiping the tears off my face for what felt like the millionth time today, I grabbed my phone and covered myself up with my blanket, wanting to escape from the world. I was back home after coming back from the hospital, and all I wanted to do right now was cuddle up next to Sage and cry into his shoulder instead of trying to silence my crying into my pillow.
Just as I was about to start crying again, I heard a car door slam shut from outside. I wonder who that could be. I thought to myself. My parents were both already home, fast asleep in their room, so I was curious as to who could come over at this time of night.
I walked over to my bedroom window and smiled once I saw Sage, leaning against his car with a bouquet of roses and a huge sign that had only one word in big bold letters that made my heart melt. He raised it up higher for me to read. It said:
Prom?
I told him to come up to my room in the quietest voice I could, and about five minutes later, he walked through my bedroom door, gently put his hands on my cheeks and kissed me. "What do you say?" He asked.
"I'd love to go to prom with you Sage." I said with a wide smile. I kissed him once more as he took my hand and led me to my bed. This was it. My one chance to cry without any judgement, as loud as I wanted, and just let it all out. I put my head into Sage's lap and just let it out.
"Hey, hey." Sage said, putting his hands through my hair. "The birthday girl isn't aloud to cry on her birthday." I sat up.
"Oh, right." I said, wiping my eyes. "I almost forgot. Crying every five seconds was not how I planned to spend my 18th birthday, but oh well."
"Look, I know it sucks. I'm sad too. But it'll get better." Sage said, rubbing my back in circles. "I don't want my princess to spend her birthday crying all day in her room."
"I think I'll be okay as long as you're here." I caressed his cheek and leaned in to kiss him. He kissed me once, twice, until I realized how much I loved him. How much I loved how our lips fit together like a perfect puzzle piece. How his breath always smelt amazing, and I could never get enough. The more we got into it, the faster we went. The more I had the urge to just rip off my clothes and let him be in charge. Just as we were about to take it further, he released from my kiss to look into my eyes. "One more thing." He said, trying to catch his breath again. He pulled a small black box out of his pocket, opened it, and there, right in front of my eyes was the most beautiful ring I had ever seen. It was encrusted with gold diamonds lining around a silver ring, which had a big space in the middle of it for a diamond to fit inside.
"I wanted to give you this." Sage said, grabbing my arm and sliding the ring on.
"Sage, it's beautiful." I gasped, my eyes remaining on the ring.
"It's a promise ring. Promising that one day, I can put a diamond in it, and I'll finally be able to call you mine for good."
I looked up at Sage, a huge smile spreading on my face from ear to ear. Without any words, I jumped into his arms, making us both lean back into the bed...
