Lily was sitting in the Gryffindor common room just sitting eating a bag of potato chips. She doesn't read or do homework all the time... Her hair was up in what she considered a bun, but it could barely count.

A group of girls ran down the staircase giggling and squealing.

"I heard they were doing some weird muggle thing!" one said.

"My money's on Black, he seems much more manlier than Potter."

Lily looked over as the girls ran out the of the portrait hole. "Do I want to know?" She debated it for a second and decided she would go see what was happening. "For the love of Merlin..." She walked out and followed after the students running. They led her all the way outside by Hagrid's hut.

She made her way to the front of the crowd and in front of her stood a large hippogriff and a large winged horse with a smooth grey coat. And who happened to be behind it? James and Sirius of course. James sat on top of the hippogriff with a large stick while Sirius sat upon the winged horse with an equally large stick.

"Your fair maiden has arrived!" Peter exclaimed.

"Drum role jester!" Sirius shouted.

There was a silence while Remus appeared from behind one of the large pumpkins. He was dressed up in a purple jester suit with pointed shoes with bells and a hat to match. "The things I do for you gits."

"You love us Moony," James said.

There were a few muffled giggles and even Hagrid laughed from his post on his hut steps.

"Here ye here ye!" Remus shouted into his wand. "We gather here to witness the duel between Lord Potter and Lord Black! They are dueling for the heart of one Miss Lily Evans!"

The people around Lily laughed and looked at her. She felt her cheeks heat up and just wanted to bury into the ground.

"TO YOUR POSITIONS!" Peter shouted.

Both James and Sirius shared a wicked smirk before leading their large creatures to opposite sides of the grounds.

"First person to knock each other off wins!" Remus announced. Peter stood up on top of the largest pumpkin with a large horn and blew it sending out the most off-key and ear bursting siren.

James and Sirius both charged at each other soaring into the sky. James hit Sirius but they both managed to stay on. They reached the other side and took a second before the next charge. It took about ten rounds but the end finally prevailed.

Sirius charged and James, but he stood on his hippogriff and jumped over the stick and striked Sirius's leg causing his to fall off his winged horse.

"AND JAMES WINS!" Peter shouted.

Sirius landed in a heap on a few fluffy pillows Remus had conjured. "I let him win!"

"Okay Padfoot," Remus said patting his back. "Just keep telling yourself that."

By now the crowd had disappeared leaving only a few.

James gracefully flew down and gave his hippogriff a treat. He walked over to Lily and bowed. "Hello love."

Lily stared at him, then back at the large creatures laying beside Hagrid. "Are you two insane?"

"I prefer the term 'creatively adventurous'."

"What was the point of that?"

"To win your heart! Didn't Moony say that?"

"You think jousting on a hippogriff will win my love for you?"

"Well you said it would..."

Lily stopped to think, but then it dawned on her. "Bloody hell."

"So you do have love for me?"

"No."

"You just said you did."

"I did not."

"You said 'You think jousting on a hippogriff will win my love for you'. Which implies you have some sort of love for me."

"The only thing I have for you is extreme annoyance."

"You should wear your hair up more, it's cute."

Lily's glare broke into a small grin and her cheeks bloomed red once again. "I'm going back to the couch where I can eat my food and do nothing without being interrupted by a stupid joust!"

Sirius came up to James and chuckled as Lily walked off. "Hey, at least she doesn't hate you anymore!"
