James sat finishing his dinner while Sirius gave him a powerful encouraging back massage and Peter gave him a pep talk. Remus? He just sat there looking at them with embarrassment. Sometimes he didn't know how he ever became friends with them. And then he remembered how lucky he was. Sirius ran his hands through James' hair perfecting its messiness and Peter was not cleaning his glasses.

Everyone around them gave them odd stares but nobody was brave enough to ask them what they were planning.

"Listen Prongs, you can do this!" Peter said encouragingly.

James got up and shook off his nerves. He marched up to Lily with a flower and said, "Lily Evans, will you do me the greatest honor, make me the happiest man alive, and give me back my snitch?" He held his hand out and closed his eyes, silently praying he'd feel the smooth ball in his hands. Nothing. He peeked an eye open and saw her staring back at him. "Please? I promise I won't let it bother you. I just want it back."

It all started the previous night...

James was sitting in the common room as usual letting his snitch fly around while Lily sat on the floor doing her homework. However, the snitch had a mind of its own and kept hovering around Lily, and weaving around her books. Every time it flew in her face, she'd try to swat it but it'd fly back to James.

James found it amusing, but by the tenth time, Lily had finally caught it and pocketed it, refusing to give it back. And aside from his cloak, the Marauders Map, it was one of his most prized possessions. And even on his best behavior Lily didn't give it back.

Lily reached into her cloak pocket and handed him the snitch. "YES!" he waved it in the air and smiled at the Marauders. "So all that aside, how about a date?"

"I think you should walk away before I take it again."

James backed away with a grin, "Noted."
