ok y'all i'm writing up a new story and actually putting effort into the face claims so i need y'all to help me choose. first off, let me tell ya about the girl in the book and the general outline.

so basically, the girl's name is Shiloh Lennon (used to be something else, probably a Ghanian/Nigerian name, but her adoptive parents changed it.) she's black, and was adopted by a white family. all of them are hippies so that explains why she was named Shiloh.

the book is set in the mid 1970s, or the mid 1990s (help me choose !!)

they live in Kansas or Idaho (help me choose skdnks) and they live in a very rural area of the state. Shiloh's mom is named Darlene and her sister is named Vienna, played by Rowan Blanchard. her brother has severe ADD and his name is either Arnie or Pax, i haven't decided.

anyway, Shiloh is struggling with identity issues as a teen being brought up by a white family, who try *too* hard to understand black culture and help Shiloh remember her roots. she has depression (maybe bipolar disorder??) and she's mainly a bit of a loner. she's a mix of Wednesday Addams, Kat Stratford, Katharine from The Taming of the Shrew and Rue from The Hunger Games. if you don't know who these people are, look them up !! it basically means that she's very sharp, strong minded, sarcastic, stubborn, non-conforming, a bit of an oddball, "strange", proud, strong willed, unsociable, intelligent, fiery, a bit sadistic and generally dark.

she's not one to blend in, but not one who sticks out so much that people notice her everywhere. she's more like a grey cloud floating over a sunny day and ruining everyone else's day. she's very non-romantic and outspoken. she plays many instruments though, mainly the guitar and the drums and piano. but the violin is the most beautiful instrument to her, she just doesn't know how to play it. she's brutally honest and almost never bites her tongue, nor does she smile very often (genuine smile, that is.) she loves drawing and writing and her artwork tends to get a bit graphic- she also is an opinionated feminist and believer in rights of minorities.

her brother, who struggles with severe ADD, is always made fun of in school and it's hard for him to get along with other kids. his only friend is a girl in his grade whose brother and sister are both people with mental disabilities. his friend's mother is a hypocritical, fang bearing bitch who his friend hates.

anyway, Shiloh's brother is very outspoken, confident, humorous, loyal, playful and funny. but, due to the stigma of mental illness, he is typically shunned from his peer group and whenever he gets bullied, Shiloh has to take over and defend him. Shiloh is pretty scary already, especially when it comes to defending her brother, so it always works.

Shiloh's sister is free-spirited and a huge hippie, she does a lot with the school about the environment and improving the school, etc etc. Shiloh's mom is a hippie to the point where it gets overwhelming, very nurturing and kind, but unsure of how to treat her daughter, who is black unlike the rest of her family.

anyway, there's no huge huge plot things except for the fact that Shiloh meets this very strange boy who is named Donnie and is portrayed by Jake Gyllenhaal circa Donnie Darko / 2002.

he's ineffably sexual, way darker than Shiloh, very sadistic, honest, disrespectful, and irritable. he's Shiloh but two times as outspoken. but, once you get to know him, once he wants you to know him (remember, he doesn't want many people to get to know him. unless he approaches you first, don't even try, unless you're planning to advance him sexually), he's pretty sweet. her armor cracks just a bit for him.

he's not supposed to be conventionally attractive or a Ken doll. i chose Jake because he looks really weird and attractively unattractive around that time period.
