Chapter 5

Once I got to the church, I found Mary sitting on the porch step with just a hoodie, leggings, and some uggs on. I beeped my horn to get her attention and she looked up with her teary eyes, mascara drained down her face, and she ran to my car quickly and got in the passenger side, shutting the door after her.

"Oh my gosh are you okay?!" I asked her, looking at her face.

"No." She sniffed, putting her face in her hands. "I never thought Moises would...change like that." She cried.

I rubbed her back. "It's okay Mary. We'll get to the bottom of this. I promise."

I drove down the road and glanced at her. "Do you want anything to eat?" I asked.

She shrugged. "Taco bell?"

"Okay." I answered.

When we got home, I got out and unlocked the front door. Jaden was sitting on the couch on his phone. "Come on Mary." I said, closing the door after her.

"So what am I supposed to do?" She asked.

"You can sleep here tonight. If Moises is abusing you, then you shouldn't be sleeping there. Okay?"

She nodded and went into the kitchen, eating her Taco Bell.

"Hey Jaden I need to talk to you for a second." I said.

He looked over at me and held his finger up. "Yeah I gotta go man. Alright. Yea. Bye." He hung up the phone and stood up. "Wassup?"

I grabbed his hand and lead him upstairs into our bedroom.

"Listen, I need you to talk to Moises." I said.

"For what?" He asked.

"For what?! He's been abusing Marissa!"

"Okay but he's a grown man, what am I going to say to him to fix that problem?" He asked.

"I dont know! But that's not right that he's laying his damn hands on her! If you aren't going to say anything to him, then I will!" I snarled, turning around to leave.

He grabbed my arm. "Aye." He called.

I looked at him. "What."

"So where is she going to stay?"

"Here."

"Why? Ain't her parents rich? She can live ova there!" He said.

"No, Jaden! this isn't just your house. I help pay these damn bills too! And if I want her to stay here until Moises stops being so abusive, then she can!" I said. "We have plenty guest rooms in this house. It's not a problem." I explained.

He crossed his arms. "What are you gonna do then when all of our food and drinks starts disappearing, because of her. Huh? and what about those nights when we make love huh? It's better off if this house is just me and you Chanel."

"You have to understand that I'm helping a friend out here. It's temporary not permanent!"

"Well she can't stay here longer than 2 weeks." He said sternly.

I squinted my eyes at him. "fine. I don't care. You were always the stingy type anyway."

"what are you talking about?"

"Nothing." I shook my head.

"Are you still mad at me?" He asked, looking into my eyes.

"Im going to go downstairs and check on Marissa." I said.
