Chapter 5:
I flicked my eyes open. I sensed a presence in a room. I looked to my side and saw sensei looking at me with a calm expression. He smiled to see me awake. I suddenly felt something stinging in my head. My palm rubbed my forehead. I frowned.
“Are you feeling all right?”He asked.
“Better.” I smiled at my sensei. “How long has it been since I blacked out?”
“About a night,” he answered.
“Did I do any harm to Byakuya or Ukitake-san?” I asked concerned.
He sighed. “Frankly, you did. You nearly killed them both.” I nodded with my throat throbbing.
“Tell me about your zanpakuto,” he said.
“He was very handsome,” I began.
“Wait,” Sensei cut me off. “Are you saying it’s a he?”
“Of course I am.”
“No wonder your powers were peculiar,” he exclaimed lightly. “You are the first female shinigami to get a male zanpakuto. Extraordinary! What’s his name?”
“Hotaru Hogoshaka.” Hotaru meant fireflies (in Japanese) and Hogoshaka meant fire guardian. “His power seems to be fire. I know I used a lot of fire in my attacks. He seemed to control my body while I had his power. It made me fight better.”
“Yes, it did. But it went out of control. It started attacking Byakuya and Ukitake,” he shook his head. I felt guilty.
“Actually, it wasn’t just Hotaru. It was me as well. Part of my powers wanted me to use them more. Hotaru’s very kind. He still had half of my body in control and the other half belonged to me.” I stopped for a moment. I thought hard. Hotaru wasn’t in full control of my body. He only had half. So all that arguing with him in my head, he wasn’t guilty of it after all. It was all me.
“Is there something wrong?”
“Nothing,” I shook my head. “Fighting with him was amazing. It made me feel calmer and stronger too.”
“I see.” He looked at my eyes. “Your eyes are golden now.”
I laughed. “Weren’t they golden before?”
“No, while you were fighting with Hogoshaka, you eyes were red.”
“I see.” We stopped for a moment. The door slid open and Youruichi stepped in.
“Youruichi!” I cried. She came up to me and gave me a cuddle.
“You look better,” she said beaming.
