Chapter two:

We arrived at the huge gate of Sereitei. The gates opened to reveal a man, wearing a straw hat with a pink, flowered lady’s kimono draped over his shoulders.

“Greetings Kyoraku taichou,” Ginrei acknowledged. “This is Abarai Reina. You will be her sensei. You will train her everyday.” He gestured to me. I tried to smile but failed. Kyoraku gave a reassuring smile.

“Hello Reina,” he said, tapping the tip of his straw hat.

“Hello,” I muttered.

“Right then, why don’t you go of with Sensei Kyoraku to have a look around and train a little,” Yoruichi told me. “I come get you in the evening.” Yoruichi and Ginrei disappeared after nodding to Kyoraku.

I looked nervously at Sensei. He grinned at me. “Nothing to be afraid of. I know you must be having a hard time but I am here for you.”

“Arigatou,” I said. Thank you.

We walked slowly around. Sereitei had a lot of walls. We passed a few buildings. “Do you know how to use your reiatsu to jump very high?” Sensei asked me. I shook my head.

“What is reiatsu?”

“Reiatsu is your spiritual power. Every shinigami has some,” he replied.

“But I am not a shinigami,” I said, confused.

“You already are. Your spiritual pressure is huge. I’m actually finding it quite difficult to breathe.”

We were still strolling around buildings. A few shinigami saw us and bowed. “Why are they bowing to us?”

“Yes, I do find it quite uncomfortable sometimes. They are bowing because I am a captain.”

“A captain? A captain of what?”

“There is something called the Gotei 13. It was founded by Captain Yamamoto Genryusai. It is the military force of Sereitei. There are 13 squads and I am a captain of a squad. It is extremely difficult to become a captain.”

“I see, you were saying before that you found it difficult to breathe why?” I asked.

“Because you have a huge amount of spiritual pressure. It’s because I have a lot of spiritual pressure as well that I’m not completely thrown of my feet,” he laughed.

“Yes, I’m feeling it too. It was the same feeling I had when I saw that hollow.”

Kyoraku abruptly halted. “Here we are. This is the training grounds of the academy. It is now break time for the children, which are why they are playing.”

We were at a place where there were green outskirts of land. A huge building was seen behind the green outskirts. The children were going playing in two groups. I looked eagerly at Sensei Kyoraku. He chuckled, “Off you go then, I’ll be waiting but come back soon all right?”
