Chapter seventeen:

I flash-stepped to my bedroom and fell to my feet. I leaned against the wall and closed my eyes. I had just defeated a lieutenant. Byakuya’s father…I had defeated him with just my shikai. Was I that powerful? Byakuya is never going to accept me. The door suddenly slid open. Ichimaru Gin stepped in with his lips in a straight line displaying a worried look.

“I heard.”

“About what?”

“The murder of Sojun Kuchiki,” Gin hesitated.

“Yes, I murdered him. But not on purpose,” I muttered.

“How can you not murder someone on purpose?” Gin asked, now agitated.

“Don’t say murder,” I snapped. “He challenged me. He told me it was either defeating him or never laying an eye on Byakuya. So we fought. And my powers went out of control. I killed him with just my shikai.”

“That is impossible. He is as strong as a captain,” he argued.

“I don’t know, Gin,” I sighed. I brought my knees to my face and hugged them. I looked at Gin. Both his eyes were open revealing bright blue eyes.

“Your eyes, they’re not golden anymore. They’re red,” he observed.

I let go of my knees, revealing my injuries. I hadn’t taken of my blood-stained haori and I was filthy.

“Oh, Reina,” he exclaimed. He came to me, cradled me, placing both arms under my back. I winced slightly.

He placed my gently on a chair. “You need help; I’m going to go get someone from squad four.”

“No,” I said, shaking my head slowly. “Don’t leave me, Gin. People are after me and I don’t want to be alone.”

“All right, you need to undress though. Your clothes are filthy.” Gin’s eyes were closed once more. He gently took of my haori and tossed it aside. He then untied my zanpkauto and placed it against the wall.

“Umm…Reina, I don’t really want to undress you,” Gin said, blushing a little grinning.

“I don’t care. Just don’t leave. I’ll undress myself,” I decided. I got up slowly and walked to the bathroom. I closed the door and stripped of my black shinigami outfit.

“Gin,” I called out.

“Yeah?” he replied.

“Could you get me something to wear? Anything will do.” I observed myself in the mirror. There were four deep long cuts through my side. The blood had dried out but my wounds hadn’t closed up. Tiny droplets of blood were oozing from the sides of the cuts. The door opened slightly and Gin’s hand came in, holding the teal kimono that Yoruichi gave me one day. I muttered a word of thanks and the door closed. I slid the kimono on and tied it. I walked outside. Gin was sitting on my bed, grinning at me.

Gin was a true friend. A lot of people despise him, but I see so much more in him. I didn’t love him. But he was my closest friend.

“I’m going to die, Gin,” I murmured as I sat close to him.

“No, you’re not,” he assured me. The doors abruptly slammed open and two shinigami guards busted in. I gripped on to Gin’s arm. Gin had one arm in front of me as thought protecting me.

“Reina Shihoin! You are under arrest for the murder of Sojun Kuchiki,” one of the guards yelled out. I gripped on tightly to Gin. I felt helpless, like a coward. Both of them made their way towards us and grabbed me violently. They pulled us apart. Gin shouted at them and they dragged me out.
