Chapter fourteen:
Many years ago, a few days after I first received my zanpakuto:
What I’m about to tell you now, is one of my biggest secrets. It happened a while ago, and it is something that I wanted to leave behind me. But it is impossible. Something I’m not proud of having done.
I opened my eyes. The clouds around me were drifting slightly, like little balls of fluff. The sky was dark, like twilight. Stairs connected from cloud to cloud.
“You’re back,” my wonderful zanpakuto said as he approached me.
“You wanted to see me,” I told him.
“Yes,” he said. He averted his gaze from me and looked at the cloud that was below me. “Did you know,” he said, looking up. “That besides from fire, I have another power or ability?”
“What would that be?” I questioned him.
“I can create souls.” I gave him a questioned look.
“Create souls?”
“Yes, I can make souls that can turn into shinigamis. There are two types of souls I can create. One is the type that you create and has a life of its own. But the other one, you can create and enter at any time.”
“I don’t understand.”
“The other type, you can control at anytime. You can enter it and be the soul.”
“I think I understand. When did you know this?”
“I knew all along. I was just waiting for the right time to tell you. You can create a soul now if you want. You can choose the age, appearance and personality.”
“All right, I’ll think about it.”
As I left the world of my zanpakuto, thoughts were flowing constantly through my head. I wanted to try it.
I opened my eyes. I was in my bed room, in the shihoin manor. It was night and no sound could be heard. The moon was shining through the curtains of my room, lightening it.
Let’s do it now, I thought to Hotaru as I held my zanpakuto, firmly. Think of the soul now, what it looks like and what it is like. When you are ready tell me.
I’m ready. I drew my sword and held it out in front of me. It lit up, as bright light erupted from the blade. It brightened my room intensely and I let my reiatsu out.
The room slowly darkened as my blade engulfed the light. There beneath me, was a girl curled in a ball, naked. She was short and petite with pale skin. Her eyes fluttered open revealing violet-coloured eyes. Her hair was short and black.
"W-where am I?” she stammered, looking around the room. The room’s light was very faint now.
“You’re in my room,” I whispered gently. I got up and grabbed my blanket wrapping it around her.
“Thank you,” she murmured. “Who are you?”
“My name is Reina,” I said. I went up and lit a nearby lamp. My room immediately flooded with light and I got a clear view of what she really looked like. She had the appearance of a nine year old, a few years younger than I am.
“What’s your name?” I asked. She thought hard.
“I-I don’t know,” she admitted.
“I think I’ll call you Rukia,” I decided.
“Rukia...I like it a lot,” she smiled.
“Hang on, I’m going to get you some clothes.” I rummaged in my drawers and got out a purple kimono that I wore a few years ago. “Here you go,” I said as I handed her the kimono.
