Chapter nine:

I stretched as I snapped my eyes open. I was lying on my bed, in the Shihoin manor. The fusuma slid open and Yoruichi stepped in. I propped my back on the wall and gazed at her. She smiled at me and sat down next to me on my bed.

“Urahara and Tessai got arrested for their crimes in Soul Society,” she announced quietly.

“No,” I exclaimed, shaking my head. “They’re innocent. I know it. I got a message the night before that Urahara was charged of performing experiments on them. It’s not true. I know it.”

Yoruichi grinned. I gave her a slight look of question. “I’m going to rescue them.”

I looked into Yoruichi’s eyes, and saw that she was indeed telling the truth. I didn’t disagree with her, or argue. “You are going to get discovered though. You know that right?”

She chuckled and ruffled my hair. I grinned at her. “That’s why you are one of my favourite people. You never deny my ideas or argue with me if you disagree. I just wanted to say good bye. For i might disappear one day and it might be a long time before we see each other again.”

I didn’t say anything. A painful throb was appearing in my throat. I looked down. I didn’t feel like crying and I wasn’t going to cry. But this was still painful. “You’ll be all right,” she told me. “I need to go now. They might be waiting.”

As she left, she gave me a quick nod and smile. I returned it with a grin. I got up and stripped out of my clothes to change into my shinigami outfit with my captain’s haori. My captain’s haori was long and short sleeved. I quickly slipped it on. There was no mirror in my room, so I ran my fingers through my hair, entangling in. There was a curtain in my room, which always had a long orange ribbon that tied it together. I walked to it, untied the ribbon and braided my hair. Then I tied my braid with the ribbon into a long bow that hung down. I got my zanpkauto and tied it around my waist.

After feeling quite presentable, I walked outside. The halls were usually quiet during this time of the morning. I decided to make my way to my squad. There is usually something to eat there.

As I walked outside, the sun was radiantly shining on my heads. Not that I could feel it. There was no weather in Soul Society. I looked down at my feet as I walked. I felt my head bump into something, relatively soft. I looked up. Byakuya looked at my face and nodded. I smiled and stepped back.

“Sorry,” I said.

“It’s all right.” We stood in silent for a moment. This was weird, talking to him again after all these weeks or maybe months.

“So where were you heading to?” I asked, breaking the silence.

“Not sure, I thought I’d take a walk,” he replied, his face straight.

“Would you like to walk together?”

“That’ll be nice,” he said. As we started walking, I realized that Byakuya was looking at me quite a lot. I smiled at him.
