As I ate breakfast, I looked out the kitchen window.
Poor Hannah and Zach. I felt so sorry for them. They did not know what was going on. They had confused looks on their faces. Zach shrugged his shoulders and grabbed Hannah's hand. I sighed as they walked down the sidewalk to the park, talking and laughing.
I would have loved to hang out with them and their friends at the park, but Cassandra would not allow it.
My caretaker forbids me to go outside, no matter the circumstances. She claims that the outside world is "full of evil" and thinks it is best for my safety to stay inside. This is exactly why she asked her boyfriend to homeschool me.
Her boyfriend is named Shawn Matthews, and he also looks to be about sixteen years old. He has short, red hair and homeschools me.
Shawn wants to major in education, so he can become a teacher. Cassandra wanted me to have a good education, so she hired him to teach me. Unlike Cassandra, Shawn is more friendly with other people. Since he is not really sure what he wants to teach, Shawn teaches me about everything - and I mean everything...everything except math, which is quite strange. I say that because Shawn got an overall A+ in Advanced Math last year.
Maybe he just doesn't like it.
Him and I always have fun learning new things. I think he will be quite the teacher someday.
I felt a tap on my shoulder.
"Huh?"
It was Cassandra. She sighed. "Are you done?" she asked me, pointing to the empty bowl with the spoon in it that was lying on my lap. "Yes, ma'am," I replied respectively as I handed her the bowl and spoon. I did not turn away from the window. I was deep in thought.
My caretaker put both the bowl and spoon in the sink and walked over to me, gently placing both of her hands on my shoulders. She kissed me softly on the forehead. "Honey, are you okay?" she asked.
Okay? Okay?! She threw out my first chance of making friends here in Madison! Get a clue, girl!
Still staring out the window, I narrowed my eyebrows. I was full of anger. I wanted to scream right in her face for being so cruel to Hannah and Zach - but I knew better not to get on her bad side.
Trust me, you do not want to get on her bad side. I have seen it. It is...horrible.
No.
Instead of yelling at her for the dumbhead that she was, I asked her a very simple question: "Cassandra, why can I not spend some time with my own kind?"
Her answer, however, was not simple at all: "You are nothing like them. You are different. You are special."
I did not know whether or not that was a compliment, but I knew exactly what she meant: "No. You can not be normal and make friends."
I had just about enough of being treated like a baby. It was time to rebel.
I was going to sneak out of the house.
