October 12, 2015 - 9:00 p.m.

It was nighttime, and Shivers was tucking me into bed. I laid in the cozy bed, snuggling my body against the soft mattress.

"You do not need to tuck me in, Mr. Shivers," I told him. "I am a big girl."

He smiled and chuckled. "I know," he said. "But I want to tuck you in anyway. I tuck in my daughter, Hannah, all the time. She lets me. Except when she is disappointed in me."

"Disappointed? Why would she be disappointed?"

"Oh, it is a father-daughter thing. You know how teenagers are. I am trying to protect her, but she thinks that I am overprotective, which I can be at times."

"Overprotective? Hey, that sounds like..." I looked down. "...my mom." Tears formed in my eyes.

Shivers sat on the bed and wrapped his arms around me, pulling me close to him. "Shh. I know that you miss your parents."

I rested my head on his chest as the tears streamed down my cheeks. "They...they were the best parents ever."

"I bet. They raised such a lovely child." He laid me down. "I will be back." He left and soon came back with something in his hands. A teddy bear. "This is Hannah's teddy bear. She used to cuddle and play with the bear whenever she was feeling down." He handed the teddy bear to me. "She said that you could borrow it for comfort tonight. You need it more."

I sniffed and wiped away my tears. "T-thank you. And thank Hannah also."

He nodded. "Will do."

I hugged the teddy bear tightly, and Shivers brushed my hair and kissed my forehead.

"There was a time when Hannah and I did not have a good relationship," Shivers confessed.

"Really?" I wondered. "How come?"

"Back in the day, I was very overprotective of her. I did not let her have much freedom."

"Yeah. Mom was kind of like that."

"I homeschooled her. I did not let her go outside. Heck, she did not have any friends."

"...okay, my mom was not that strict."

"Then...one day...everything changed. I realized that I was shutting her out from the rest of the world. I knew my mistake. From that point to the present day, Hannah goes to an actual school, has lots of friends, and even has a boyfriend."

"Aw." I smiled. "A happy ending."

"You would not believe me if I told you in detail what convinced me to be less of a overprotective parent."

"Oh, yeah? How were you convinced?"

His face suddenly turned pale. "Uh..." He yawned. "Boy, I am tired. I think that we should go to sleep."

I pouted. "What about the story? You did not tell me what convinced you to change."

He patted my arm. "I will tell you tomorrow morning."

"Promise?"

"Promise." He got up and walked over to the light switch. "Sleep tight, precious." He turned off the lights and left the room.

I kept a good grip on the teddy bear and stared up at the ceiling. The ceiling was very pretty. It had zentangles and other types of designs. The ceiling had much more class than my entire room back at home.

"I wish that I could stay here. Forever."

"Yes. I would like that too."

"Huh?!" I sat up and looked around, breathing heavily. "Who...who said that?"

"I did."

Slowly, I turned my head in the direction where the voice was coming from.

And saw a puppet standing on the bed.

All by itself.

I gasped and was getting ready to leap out of the bed, but the puppet grabbed me and held me down.

"Shh," it spoke. "We do not want Papa to hear us."

"P-Papa?" I stammered, feeling confused. I shook in fear. "Who...who are you?"

"The name is Slappy, and you will be my bride." The puppet then slammed its wooden lips against my own lips.
