"Ah!" I screamed.
"Oh, no you do not!" Stine yelled. He grabbed the manuscript from my hand and hit Slappy on the head with it.
"Ow!" a cry escaped Slappy's wooden throat as he stopped in midair. He fell on his stomach. "Oof!" He groaned. "Oh..."
"Quick, Stine!" my caretaker said. "Put him back in the book!"
The writer opened the manuscript and dropped it. Thud! The manuscript landed on the grass.
"Noooooo!" the puppet cried as he clung on pieces of grass. "Slappy is not happy!"
"Neither is Shelly!" I shot back at him, frowning. I was about to kick him, when he looked at me with a sad face. His eyebrows were raised, and his smile slowly faded.
"S-Shelly...I...I will be in your dreams..."
Stine kicked Slappy, making him let go of the grass and getting him back in the manuscript. "Stupid dummy!" he told his creation.
"Shelly! I love yooooooou!" The puppet turned into ink and disappeared into the manuscript.
Stine shut the manuscript and picked it up. "One down. A lot more to go."
"Are you okay, Shelly?" Hannah asked.
I did not know how I could answer that question. A tear ran down my cheek, but I quickly wiped it away before Hannah or anybody else noticed. I looked at Cassandra and Shawn, who were hugging. And I looked at my feet as I felt more tears coming along.
Slappy was gone. And he was never coming back.
