My face flushed, and I breathed heavily. Pain shot through my legs. They were extremely tired from walking, running, and standing. I had put so much use into them today, and they were about to collapse. They needed rest.
Listening to my legs' one request, I quickly sat on the grass and spread my legs out. I massaged the muscles in my legs, and hair fell over my eyes, but I did not bother moving the hair this time.
I was devastated. Too devastated.
"Perhaps that you did not hear me," Slappy said in a firm voice. It sounded like that he was getting impatient. "I asked you a question. Why did you kiss the Invisible Boy? No doubt, in the girls' bathroom?"
I kept my mouth shut and looked down. Tears formed in my eyes, and I sniffed.
Tamara? My cute and curious baby sister? Dead?
I slowly lifted my head and glared back at Slappy. He now had his arms crossed. Drops of tears ran down my cheeks.
"You...you are lying!" I screamed. "Tamara is alive! Your friends could not have killed her!"
"Oh, but we did," I heard a voice inform me.
The voice did not sound like Slappy's.
I turned to where the voice came from and spotted a monster appearing from darkness. This monster had purple skin and a long snout. It was wearing a shirt and a gray jacket and had what seemed to be yellow, sharp claws.
I gasped at the sight of the hideous creature and wanted to scoot away as far as I could. With Slappy's spell, however, I was at a lost. My only option was to sit where I was and get ready to defend myself.
The puppet noticed the monster. His grin grew even wider than before, which creeped me out.
"Why, hello, Creep," Slappy greeted the creature. "It is nice to see you."
"Hi, Mr. Slappy," the purple monster responded in a raspy voice. "And I may be a Creep, but I have a name, you know. It is Hugo."
"Whatever! You Creeps all look the exact same." He pointed at me. "This is my soon-to-be queen. We were supposed to get married earlier..." He paused, and then continued. "...but her dumb caretaker ruined the ceremony. That is why I want you and the others to not only destroy Stine, but make her caretaker suffer."
"No!" I interrupted their conversation. "You already took my sister!"
"Yum!" the Creep named Hugo said, rubbing his stomach. "And she was delicious!"
"What?!" I quickly got back up. Both my legs and feet still hurt. That did not cross my mind though. I was too worried and upset about Tamara. "You ate her?!"
"Yep."
"Slappy told me that his friends killed her!"
"He is right. We killed her. And then, we ate her."
I covered my mouth to keep from gagging. Knowing that my own baby sister was killed by these imbeciles was horrific enough. But...eating her? That is another level of disrespect!
The puppet motioned with a hand. "Be gone with you, Creep," he demanded. "You have work to do. Besides, my bride and I need to be alone."
The Creep nodded and bowed. "Yes, sir." He hurried off.
As soon as the monster left the scene, I ran up to the puppet and grabbed ahold of his jacket. I clenched my teeth.
"You will not get away with this," I whispered, my hot breath hitting against his wooden face. "When Cassandra and the others find out what you and your monsters did, you will be in deep trouble."
Slappy tossed back his wooden head and laughed. His laughter echoed. It was like nails on a chalkboard, which I find very annoying.
I let go of his jacket and crossed my arms. I did not care that I was close to him, so very close. I was more concerned about Tamara. She needed justice for her death.
I thought about getting the manuscript, but that idea did not last long. The Invisible Boy stole it from me, and he could be anywhere!
Slappy lowered his head to where it was before and put his hands behind his back. "Good job referencing a Goosebumps book, "Deep Trouble," he said. "And I think that I do not have to worry about Papa or Cassandra or your "Non-Fiends" or the kids. As I speak, my monster friends are already in the school and looking for them, and the plants, controlled by Dr. Brewer's clone, have blocked the exits of the school, so there is no escape." He took a deep breath. "As for the Invisible Boy, I took care of him. I knew that he kissed you, not the other way around. I saw the whole thing. Plus, I took something that he had." He pulled out his left hand, revealing the manuscript.
"The manuscript!" I said.
Slappy tsk-tsked. "Too bad that it needs to be burned." He pulled out his right hand, revealing a match - and fire on top of the match. He brought the match close to the manuscript. "Say goodbye to your last hope of victory."
"Not so fast!" a voice called.
Startled, I turned to where it was coming from.
And became surprised and a bit relieved at who it was.
