"Eek!"
I reached to lock the door again, but Slappy moved fast. He kicked the door open, and the door swung back and hit the wall of the stall. I let out a cry, dodging the door.
My teeth began chattering, and I hugged myself as he walked to me.
"Aw. Your wedding dress," the puppet spoke. "What happened to it? It looked far better than the clothes that you have on now."
I just stared at him, not answering his question. I was trying to find a way to pass him and run out of the restroom. I moved my head slightly and from the corner of my eye, I noticed that I had set the dress on the toilet seat. My arms shaking, I picked up the wedding dress and showed it to him.
"I-I still have it," I stammered. "S-see?"
Slappy tugged on the dress and examined it. "Ah," he said. "It is a good thing that you kept it. And no stains. Pure white." He looked up at me. "You are a good girl. At the same time though, you are a bad girl for leaving me and taking off the dress." He let go of the wedding dress. "Put it back on, come with me, and all will be forgiven."
I clutched the dress tightly, wrapping my fingers, now sweaty, around the fabric material. "Actually...can we take this outside?"
The puppet's eyebrows shot upward, and I could see his cheeks turning red. "What?"
"I want to take this outside."
He sighed and crossed his wooden arms. "Look, I am evil and all, but I am not about to let you go outside and change clothes. My monster friends, including the boys, would not handle it."
"Ew! No!" I gently slapped his side. "I was wondering if we could have the wedding outside."
"...oh. Wait, why do you want to have our wedding outside?"
"I like the outdoors. And if I am getting married to you, then the wedding should be a moment to remember. Right?"
He pondered my explanation. "Yes."
"And we can get married by the school. That way, you and your friends will not have to worry about traveling. We just need to be outside."
"Hmm..."
"Please?" I got on my knees.
Slappy laughed at the sight and patted my head. "Alright, alright. Put on the wedding dress, and we will go outside."
I flashed a fake smile. "Thank you." I then got on my feet - and threw the dress at him.
"Ah!" he yelled. The dress landed over his wooden body, and he struggled, trying to detangle himself from the grasp that the dress had on him, even though that the outfit was not alive.
This was my chance.
I carefully stepped over him, making sure that any part of my body did not brush against him or the wedding dress, and hurried out of there as fast as I could. Pat, pat, pat. My shoes patted against the floor.
I pushed the entrance - in my case, exit - door of the bathroom open and came back in the hallway. I jogged to the lobby and surveyed the area. I cupped my hands around my mouth.
"Cassandra? Cassandra!" I called.
There was no response.
"Cassandra!" I called again, louder this time. I prayed to get a response.
Unfortunately, I got none.
I swept my hair back and groaned in frustration.
Where did she go? Where could my caretaker have possibly gone to?
All of a sudden, I heard a sound. A low growl.
I breathed heavily and cupped a hand around my ear, listening to the mysterious sound.
Who - or what - was making that sound?
I glanced at a corner on the left. It sounded like that it was coming from that direction.
Slowly, carefully, and quietly, I tiptoed down the middle of the hallway. The floor creaked beneath my feet, but thankfully, it was not loud enough for anyone near me to hear it.
I soon reached the end and quickly went over to a wall. I pressed my back against the wall. My legs shook in fear. My heart was pounding. Fear was boiling inside of me. I was nervous at what was growling.
Was it an animal? A dangerous animal?
A monster?
And if the creature spotted me, then what? Could I outrun it? Or would it end my chances of living on?
These questions were too much to bare.
"Help!"
"Huh?" I pressed my hands against the wall to keep my body steady.
"Help!" someone called. It sounded like a boy.
Without giving it any thought, I turned my head and looked down the corner. My mouth dropped open in surprise.
I saw Cassandra, Shivers, Hannah, Zach, and Champ. And behind them and holding them in place...
...were the monsters.
I felt a hand stroking my leg and glanced down.
There was Slappy. Holding his knife in one hand and stroking my left leg with the other.
"My queen, you have made Slappy very unhappy," he spoke.
