"Tamara," I said. "My baby sister..."
"Your baby sister?" Slappy repeated. He looked at Tamara, and then back at me. "She looks nothing like you."
I narrowed my eyebrows. "She is a "Non-Fiend," that is why."
Baby Tamara was the youngest member of the "Non-Fiends." She is the first baby who I thought of in my mind. You see, I love babies. Who does not? They are so tiny and cute. Even their little feet are cute! I always wanted to have a baby of my own, however, I did not want to have a baby in my stomach, and I still do not. So Tamara was created, and boy, she is a smart cookie.
She was thought of just last year and had already learned what she claims are...
"Lots of things!" That is one of her favorite sayings.
She loves almost everyone and everything that she comes in contact with. She craves food all the time and likes playing with her toys. And man, she loves me to death.
Seriously. When I tuck her in for bed or nap time - by the way, she hates bedtime and taking naps - she will cry bloody murder because she knows that I will leave her when she goes to sleep. She will say over and over again...
"Sister!"
I actually do feel a little guilty when I leave her after she falls asleep. She is so adorable. So precious. I hold her little hand to let her know that I am still with her. I also read to her. Sing to her. Tamara tries all that she can to stay awake. It is so darling. But she always fails and falls fast asleep.
"Dummy!" Baby Tamara exclaimed happily, making me snap out of the memories that I have had with her.
The puppet glared at her. "Who you callin' dummy? Dummy!" he exclaimed angrily.
I gulped.
Did I mention that Tamara knows lots of words - and her favorite to say is dummy?
Tamara giggled and played with her little feet. Slappy stared at her, not amused by her playing.
"You are a dumb baby. You know that?" he said to the baby.
"Hey! Nobody calls my sister dumb!" I protested.
I was worried that Tamara would get upset at him for calling her dumb. Luckily, she did not. She just kept giggling.
He growled. "Stop laughing!"
"Giggling," I corrected. "She is giggling."
"Whatever!" He played with her pink headband that had a pink bow on the side. "You had better shut up if you know what is good for, baby."
Baby Tamara just stared intently at the puppet and sucked on her little hand.
"Do you even know who you are dealing with?"
She took her hand out of her mouth and said, "Dummy!"
"No!" I shouted.
I could see Slappy's face turning red like a tomato. "That is it!" Gripping only her left ankle, he dangled her upside. "You need a serious spanking!" He raised his free hand, ready to slap her.
"No! Do not!" I yelled at the top of my lungs. "Do not give her a spanking. She did not mean to call you that."
The puppet looked at me and sneered. "Yes, she did."
"I swear. The word 'dummy' is her favorite word to say. She says it to just about anybody. Me. The "Non-Fiends." The guy next door. The mailman."
He shook his head. "I do not buy it." He held his hand up high.
"Wait!"
"Now what?!"
"Please...do not hurt her."
"Well, that is too bad. 'Cause I am giving her a spanking that she will never forget!"
"I will do whatever you want!"
Slappy's wooden eyebrows went up, and he lowered his hand. "What was that?"
I brushed my hair and looked down. A small amount of fear had re-entered my body. My body and soul.
"...I will do whatever you want," I repeated. "Just do not hurt her. She does not deserve it. She is as innocent as the babies in this world."
"Hmm..." He set Tamara down and held her little hand so she would not crawl away from him. "...anything that I want?"
I slowly nodded and kept my head down. "Anything."
"Like...letting me destroy the typewriter and you becoming my queen?"
A chill shot down my spine as he stated his offers. I lifted my head back up and looked at him, trying to hold back tears. I opened my mouth and was about to agree to his terms, when I heard someone.
"Leave those girls alone!"
I looked up - and spotted Stine hurrying onto the stage. He went up the stairs that led to the stage and had his arms out. Both of his hands were in gripping positions, ready to grab the puppet and baby.
Slappy yawned, seeing him on the stage, and took a step back. He held out a wooden leg, and before he could stop himself from running, Stine tripped over the wooden leg and flew into the air.
"Stine!" I cried.
I ran away from the table as Stine fell headfirst on the table. The table cracked and broke, and he, the manuscript, and the typewriter fell to the floor.
"Oh my gosh!" I could not believe what I had witnessed.
Dust circled around him and the objects, and I heard him coughing. When the dust died down, I hurried to Stine. He sat up and rubbed his head.
"A-are you okay, Mr. Stine?" I asked.
"I...I hope so," he said in between coughs.
I looked for the typewriter and manuscript. I got on my knees and searched through the rubble. I finally found the manuscript. I picked it up and examined it. Thank goodness. It was okay. No pages ripped or anything.
I looked for the typewriter. And gasped when I saw it. Unlike the manuscript, the typewriter was not lucky.
The typewriter had broken. Broken in half.
