The New Job

"Again, dad. Why do we have to move?"

Hello, fandom. My name is Shelly Madison. I'm twelve years old and I live in Belfast, Maine...or, at least I did.

I bet you are wondering what is going on. Let me explain to the best of my ability.

I have lived in the small town of Belfast ever since I was born. I love everything and everyone there. My school. My home. My friends and teachers. My relatives. I remember every moment when my grandmother took me to the ocean and we searched for hours trying to find seashells. It was always a success.

Now all of that is gone because of my dad's new, stupid job.

Since I was born, money had been tight for my family - and it only was the three of us! Mom, dad, and I. Dad had always wanted to be an accountant, so when he found out that Belfast's hometown bank was looking for a bank accountant, my dad was thrilled.

The bank manager hired him, and, boy, my dad was good at it. The job was paid handsomely. At the end of each week, my dad earned over fifty bucks! That was plenty for food, clothing, and non-essential things. Mom, dad, and I loved it.

So why would he want to give up that job and get a less-paid one?

At the end of last month, my dad got an email of a job notice - from Madison, Maryland. The homeschool in Madison desperately needed an advanced math teacher. No way my dad would give up the job he has now for this dumb job. Right?

"There is no way." I told myself everyday. "There is no way that my dad will make our family move to the puny town called 'Madison.' Belfast has always been our one, true home. Dad loves it here. Our whole family loves it here."

Unfortunately, as you may have guessed, my dad took the job.
