One badass to go

A couple of moments later the loud beats of the music simmer down and they announce the start of the fireworks show.

The DJ plays soul-feeding indie tunes in the background that sounded pleasant to the ears.

The crowd suddenly couple up and what remains aside from the couples are a clique of girls or even a group of guys and girls together in circles.

Tess and I take a bar stool each and we lay our back to the bar ledge and watch the view ahead.

A moment later we all flinch at the sound similar to that of a bullet fired into the sky and we tilt our heads back until a moment later the sky lights up with a wheel of multicolors.

And then the fireworks kept coming and we watched as more color wheels and shapes were projected on the pitch black sky above.

I only look ahead again when I feel my neck ache.
Just to be met by dancing couples whom ocassionally kissed and hugged, sharing their love with one another.

I find myself wondering where Amanda is, what she'd be doing, who's she with and more relatable questions...

I mindlessly turn to glance at Tess and her distressed gaze causes my frown to form.

She looked twice her age with a really heavy weight on her chest.

She was still staring up at the sky with glossy eyes.

And the moment she tilted her head back to the front, two tears escaped her eyes and she shut them before she dabbed the tears right away.

My heart went out for her for a moment or two.

I gulped, wondering if I should say something that would comfort her.

But I didn't know what was hurting her so much.
It didn't seem like it was something silly, like a break up or something.
It looked very much like a hardship.

Was it the eviction?
Is she having a financial problem?
Where are her parents or family?

"Tess?" I spin the bar stool her way and she blinks the tears away before she turns towards me.

"I know it didn't work..." I start to say.
"Proving you're-badass was it?" I smile sarcastically and she chuckles, rolling her eyes at herself.
"And that they didn't admit you and all..."
"But when you come to think of it." I tilt my head suggestively.

"I kind of did my part..." I nod assuredly.

"You, ruined it all." I point a finger at her and her eyebrows slightly shot up.

"What do you mean?" She shook her head a little. She wasn't amused anymore. She was confused.

"I mean, I still deserve to know what is it you were after..." I sigh, eyeing her guardedly.

She looks away, lowering her gaze.

"You got me curious after what you told them." I add.
"That the reason you were doing all this goes beyond their reckoning and all..."

She smiles sadly.

"I'm leaving..." She shrugs with a small smile.
"Don't you think it's pointless?" She tilts her head mirroring me.

"I want to know..." I find myself insisting on it.
I shrug.

Maybe deep down, I wanted to know if there was some way I could help her.

She straightens to sigh longily.

"Do you promise you won't offer any help?" She asks and I instantly frown at her.
