"Bye Nala."
"Thanks Adam."
"Oh-Tess..." I turn to watch Brandon pull Tess into a bear hug and lift her off the ground a little causing her to snicker.
"Thank you..." He whispers and she chuckles shaking her head.
"Goodnight ya'll!" He waves and then he disappears behind the front door.
I still felt like shit every time I took a look at his bruised face.
"Thank you Adam." Nala speaks in a more sincere tone.
"Let's just stop talking about it please..." I toss my head back again.
"Okay." She nods obediently.
"Hey stranger, get over here." Nala calls Tess over.
I watch as she takes her seat in a nearby couch and smiles at Nala ephemerally.
"Thank you."
"You know-for all the help." Nala waves a hand here and there and I sense her bitch attitude resurface.
Tess nods once.
"So, do you like my brother?" Nala asks and my head twitches, almost snapping off.
"Go to your room. Now." I pull her up to her feet and lightly shove her back with my toes.
"Go text your boyfriend or something." I shoo her off and she snickers.
"Whatever you do, don't fall in love with Mr. warmth here..." She addresses Tess and I stress on my jaw hard, keeping my eyes on the TV.
"Just saying..."
I finally hear her footsteps fade away.
"We pulled off quite a show for you didn't we?" I smile sarcastically and Tess grins.
"I'm just glad all is good now." She shrugs happily and I smile at her.
"Is it bedtime yet?" I sit up straight.
"If you want it to be." She nods once and I nod before switching the TV off and getting to my feet.
I wait for her to walk ahead and then I follow her to her room.
"I'll just wash up and join you." I inform her and she nods at me.

"Oliver? Hey..." I press my phone to my ear.
"Yeah-I miss you too." I sigh with a heavy heart.
"Where have you been?" I shook my head feeling instantly down.
He goes on telling me about how caught up he got with work and how his father used his days off and took him on business trips with him and I get lost between all what was being said, not able to find myself.
I didn't think there was a place for me in Oliver's life anymore...
"Oliver..."
"It's okay." I chuckle a little.
"You don't have to."
"I know how busy you are, I get it." I feel my chest tighten.
"I hate to say I told you so..."
"It's just how life works."
"People tend to drift away at some point in their lives."
"And they'd be very lucky to find their ways back after they settle."
"And none of us settled yet Oliver..." My eyes fill up against my will but I blink the tears away.
Oliver remained silent on the other end.
And then he asked me of what I was trying to say.
"I'm saying-I don't know Oliver..."
"Are you living your life right?"
"Are you having fun?"
"I mean-don't stop yourself from going out there-"
"And dating..." I sigh in release.
