Thompson
The room was beautiful, spacious, all shades of browns. The colors kind of reminded me of sandy pebbles on a beach shore.
The wardrobe was built in, smaller than mine, but why would anyone buy a wardrobe that extended to the width of one wall of the room for their guests?
This one used almost a quarter of the wall.
There was a beautiful modern dressing table at one corner of the room and a recliner on the opposite corner.
But there was nothing else except for the bed that was positioned in the center of the room with two dark oak wood bedside tables that had bedside lamps placed onto them.
There was a window centered in one wall that looked upon their perfectly green trimmed front yard.
I sigh heavily and turn to set my two boxes near the empty corner of the room and then I lay my suitcase beside them and only pick out of it a few clothes that would be enough for the coming couple of days.
I picked out jeans, sneakers, and other clothings that would seem suitable for driving around all day, looking for both a job, and a place to rent, if even a room.
I take out two pajamas, a towel, and a few of my cosmetics and the shower set.
The plan was; stay out all day and only be here when it's almost bed time.
I had to rent a car first thing in the morning to drop my house keys at Harry's office before I start the search in the streets of Manhattan.
But right now, I just needed a shower before it was bed time.
And that reminded me that I should call Tiffany to check out on her.

Later that night, after showering in their heavenly bathroom, changing into clean pajamas, diving into the bed, crawling under the feather bed cover, and checking on Tiffany, I heard the front door open and then I heard Adam's footsteps around the house. I guessed it was Adam's...
I had the bedside lamp on but I still couldn't get myself to sleep.
Even with being in a room on my own with the door shut and the lamp on, sleep never found its way to my eyes...
I shifted from side to side and hugged the fluffy feathery cover to me but nothing worked.
I want home...
And that takes me back to last night and the few good hours I've slept beside Adam. In his arms or whatever...
I remember feeling safe.
But it still seemed absurd to me that I wasn't feeling safe in here, in this room...
Maybe it was the idea of other people having spent the night here, sleeping on this bed.
It reminded me of the night my aunt's second husband offered I'd sleep in his bed since my aunt dozed off on mine.
He said he didn't want to sleep.
He said he'd crash on the couch when he gets tired.
I believed him...
My chest grows heavy and I find myself choking on air, pulling myself up and grabbing at my chest hard.
My lungs momentarily malfunctioned and the airways in my chest tightened further.
I coughed louder and harder until I had to pull myself up and leave the room.
I almost bumped into Adam on my way to where I remember the kitchen was.
"What happened?" He asks worriedly but instantly fills me a glass of water that I drink from in haste.
I feel my chest slightly lift but I continue to draw in heavy breaths.
"I choked..." My voice croaks.
