"What's in it?" I ask Adam after he extracts a disproportionate looking cigarette.
"What do you mean?" He frowns at me a bit too absurdly.
"It's not just tobacco Adam..."
"I've been to highschool you know?" I quirk a brow.
"Then why don't you tell me what's in it Tess." He turns to me a beat.
I gulp.
"Light it up." I jerk my chin at it and he frowns again.
I'll know from the smell of it.
I can never forget the tangy scent of a stuffed cigarette.
Plus, I was a smoker of plain cigarettes and I know exactly how they should smell.
I nod at him once and he lights it up without any other words.
At the first puff of smoke, he blinks a little and sort of avoids my gaze before he guards my reaction.
"There's definitely hash in it..." I whisper real lowly and chuckle when he stresses on his jaw trying to keep himself from smiling guiltily.
Busted!
"I take it you've tried it before?" He refers to the cigarette in hand and I shake my head a beat.
"I used to smoke the plain ones..."
"I just recognize the tangy smell in those." I reply and his eyebrows slightly shoot.
"I always thought those would get me real high." I chuckled and he smiled a little.
I continued watching him place the cigarette between his lips, drawing in an unrushed inhale, and then I watched the air whirls leave his nostrils and his gaped lips in the same unrushed rhythm.
It made me crave the trial.
It also made me ask;
"Would it?"
He glances at me and then at the cigarette in hand and then he quirked an eyebrow at me.
"Forget it." He nods once and for a moment there, my mind automatically terminates the thought.
I frown a little and then stare ahead again.
"Are you still feeling uncomfortable about Nala and Brandon?" I ask in a hesitant tone.
"They're not going to be together forever." He shook his head and I almost scoffed.
"But how do you know that?"
"You never know!" I shook my head at him.
"They're pretty much in-love..." I sigh but his head jerks my way and he squints at me before he flicks his cigarette out.
"Yeah-how does that word gaurantee anything in life for you? Enlighten me Tess."
"Were you in love with that Oliver you dumped a few days back on the phone?" He spoke in pure rath and my heart sunk.
He heard the whole phone call...
"You know what-forget it."
"Maybe I'm the one who's unable to relate here."
"It's my love for my sister that can guarantee her I'm always going to have her back, no matter what happens and for as long as we live." He taps his chest with a finger.
But what is that unjustified anticipation for the worst that he had?
What has he seen from life that made him this way?
"Everything okay?" Cole speaks and we find him walking towards us warily.
Adam glances at him but then he turns to stare ahead again.
"Where's Madonna?" I force a smile.
He glances at Adam's back again and then he eyes me once more.
