Thwaites

I remained in my seat, stiffened and blanched.
I couldn't think clearly, especially when I was still feeling buzzed and my head was still throbbing.

I hear Tess's words echo in my head and the thought that crosses my mind is that I should go for another bottle of whatever that shit was. That shit was strong and just what I needed to be able to digest what just happened, or drink it away...

A couple of hours, minutes, maybe even days later, I'm fuzzing awake from an obscure dream...

I'm in the backseat of someone's car and it was stopping...

"Rise and shine..." Someone speaks in a high octave.

I force my lids apart and I'm met with Cole's clown face.

"What do you want?" I grunt and my voice comes out cracked.

"Oh me? Nothing-just for you to get out of my fucking car so I can drive home..." He scoffs and then chuckles at me.

I look around and my awareness strikes in.

"Where's Tess?" I wipe my face with both my hands and rake through my hair, forcing my eyes to widen as I get myself to sit up straight.

"Madonna is supposed to drop her here, she might be inside..." He informs me and I frown.

"Why didn't you bring her with us?" I asked.

"She sort of clinged to Madonna when I offered." He shrugs.

"They even took a cab when I was supposed to drive Madonna home myself..."
"She was wasted too..." He adds and I wonder if she chose to have another bottle too.

"My car?" I add.

"Parked at the port..."
"Want me to take you there in the morning?" He offers and I shake my head before pushing the car door open.

"Nah-thanks for the ride." I nod at him before I drag myself out and shut the door behind me.

I winced when I felt a sharp twist in the area just between my eyes.

"Goddamn it..." I force my legs to take me to my front door.

By the time I reach the door, I feel the muscles in my legs spasm.

I attempt to pull my keys out but the door flies open and I almost stumble to the front.

"Get in..." Nala jerks her head inwards.

I step inside and frown down at her.

"Why would you waste yourself like that?" She asks and I instantly sigh.

I wave her off and walk to my room.

She follows me and I'm hearing her yell, but I'm choosing to block most of what she says until she articulates Tess's name.

"Where?" I pause before I'm inside my room.

"What?" She frowns.

"Where is she?" I ask.

"I don't know-and I don't fucking care! I-"
And she begins again until I kick my door close and slomp down onto my bed, muting her out...

My lids fall heavy and I fall into darkness...

That night, I wake up a handful of times, startled, brushing the other side of the bed that was cold and vacant, helplessly worrying about Tess, debating over calling her...

Why isn't she here yet?
Is she even home?
Is she asleep?
I had no answers...
